Anomaly with brain 20 week scan

At my 20 week scan today they found there was too much fluid in the brain (I think this was in the cisterna magna) and the brain also was not symmetrical (I think with the cerebellum). We have been referred to fetal medicine but they can't see us until next Tuesday, I don't know how we are supposed to go on until then not knowing. Has anyone else experienced similar? What was the outcome? It was such a shock today, our other scans have been fine and the screening tests were low risk.

Hi, sorry to hear you are going through this, I hope you are ok.

I don't have any experience on this but I see you haven't had any comments - try the antenatal scans and tests support group forum on babycentre, you might find that someone can help on there.

Wishing you the best x

I'm so sorry 💔
I have been in your shoes, though our sons was not detected at the 20 week scan, but instead at a private scan at 27 weeks. The wait for fetal medicine is awful.
It's extremely scary, and naturally you Google.
It may be too much for you right now whilst it's so raw, but I found the ventriculomegaly Facebook group extremely helpful and it gave me masses of hope.
Sadly our son's issues were very, very severe and it was more than just fluid on the brain in the end. Devastatingly, we chose to end the pregnancy at 32 weeks. This isn't to scare you though, our son had inherited a condition from myself which caused the issues. It's actually very, very common for the fluid to reduce again with it normal levels further in the pregnancy.
I'm happy for you to message me if I can help in any way, though I understand you may not want to.
Write down any questions that pop into your head that you can ask fetal medicine.
Sending you huge amounts of hugs.

Also, Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) are a fantastic charity who know a lot about different issues discovered during pregnancy and are amazing people to talk to about your worries

Thank you so much for the kind replies, I really appreciate it. I just wanted to post a little update, we were really lucky that another hospital was able to see us sooner (yesterday) and the consultant who did the scan could not see the issues raised by the first sonographer and said it was a completely normal brain, she even got another consultant in to double check. They think the first scan anomalies must have been due to poor view/positioning. Needless to say we are just so relieved and grateful 🥲
