Clear blue digital not progressing

Hi everyone,

I know there are other threads on this but just looking for other's experience re these tests. I got a BFP a few days ago. I have a 26 day cycle so my period was due on Thurs. I then went and bought a digital test and it's only reading 1-2 weeks which I understand is only 3-4 weeks pregnant. It was with FMU. Surely it should be 2-3 at this stage as I should be 4+3??

I had a MMC a few months ago so am extremely paranoid and anxious that this is a sign that the pregnancy isn't progressing well😟

Please step away from these tests. They seem like such a good idea at the time but the anxiety that they produce is huge! The range of hcg at different stages if early pregnancy is so so variable from person to person! I don't think I've ever seen a positive post about them, it's always the same concerns which usually turn out to be totally unfounded. If you have genuine concerns about your hcg levels speak to your gp, ask if they will do a blood test, but honestly once you have a positive if you have no other reason to be concerned then just take it a day at a time and remember. Today you are pregnant.

I did one of these tests the day after my first positive blood test. I excitedly went to do another a week later hoping to see it go from 2-3 weeks to 3+ and it didn't. I regretted it massively as it just caused me stress and as @JD90 says, it seems there are lots of stories of this happening. It's all to do with hCG levels and the difference in their levels for each week is crazy. I also didn't use FMU which was silly. I wished I'd not done it and haven't tested again. I've spent the last few days trying to forget about it and not worry. The anxiety is real isn't it, and bad enough without a test not saying what you'd hoped. X

Thanks a mil for your responses. To be honest I'm so annoyed at myself for buying them and starting this messing. Not sure it's right to waste a GPs time with this, I may just hold off and book in for a scan in a few weeks! @jx3303 How far along were you when you got the 2-3?

I feel the exact same - I wish it hadn't been a 2 pack! I only did it cos I wanted the "pregnant" for my first ever BFP. I didn't even realise the digitalis didn't last for long either, I panicked when it disappeared after 24 hours. So much for keeping it for memories. I got 2-3 weeks 17dpo (and 12 days post transfer as it was IVF). I had my bloods done and my hCG was a good number so I'm trying just to focus on that and they didn't request I had bloods repeated. The ranges are so huge and I don't think very reliable. I wish I had researched beforehand as now I've read so many stories of them being rubbish for lots of ladies. Take comfort in the positive result and ignore the weeks x

Molly2023 · 30/04/2023 20:05

I'm just relieved I didn't buy the triple pack😅 . Ah huge congratulations, tbh if the clinic are happy with your beta hcg I wouldn't worry at all. This pregnancy was natural but my DS was an IUI baby so had the bloods with him and found great comfort in that! I also had a chemical with my first IUI and it was picked up on that first beta X

Haha me too! I actually ordered another pack that day and cancelled after reading some people never seen what they'd expect, weeks and weeks later. I guess it's a gimmick and just causes stress.

I just googled hCG rise and I think I probably did the test slightly too early (and after a litre of water which was just silly but I just didn't think) as it says it doubles every 2-3 days so to get what clear blue needs to read 3+ I'd have had to have over 2500 I think it is and I must not have been at that yet.

Thank you so much - they'd probably tell me off if they knew i'd tested twice with those haha. I've never been one for lots of tests, I didn't even do one until I knew it was a BFP. Aw lovely, congrats to you too! Perhaps you could ask your GP for bloods for reassurance? Or there are private clinics that can do them too - I don't live near my IVF clinic so had them done somewhere local xx

Jx3303 · 30/04/2023 20:13

And so sorry to hear you had a chemical. Some days I'm filled with such anxiety and I've since realised I think most of us are x

seven201 · 30/04/2023 20:35

I'm someone who has a thread on this too. Mine was stuck on 1-2 when should have been on the cusp of 3+, but I'd have been happy with 2-3. I ended up ordering medichecks HCG blood tests which gave good results. I'm now nearly 13 weeks after 4 miscarriages (haven't got this far since my dd over 7 years ago). I really regret buying the weeks indicator.

Molly2023 · 30/04/2023 21:12

Thanks a mil for your reply and massive congratulations after all that heartache xx

Jx3303 definitely a gimmick!! I'd say they weren't invented for this purpose, prob just to give people a rough estimate when they're not sure of their cycle. My husband thinks I'm crazy lol. Your first beta was brilliant so I'd definitely relax. Mine was 172 on 15days after the IUI a few years ago and they said once over 150 don't even repeat it x

@Molly2023 I hope you're feeling better about it today and have managed to put the test out of your mind. I was telling my counsellor about it today and I knew she could tell what was coming when I said I tested again 🙈

@seven201 congratulations and so sorry to hear what you've been through before this pregnancy. The tests are just awful aren't they, I so wish I'd just got a normal test to keep. Wishing you all the very best ❤️

Molly2023 · 02/05/2023 07:28

So I did the last one today and still saying 1-2 with FMU. Also have cheap pregnancy strips and line is nearly as dark as test line so bit confused! Not buying any more tests and just book into a scan in a few weeks. What will be will be as they say!! Hope you're getting on ok? Xx

Jx3303 · 04/05/2023 10:42

Don't worry, the same happened to me in that it didn't change to the next week bracket. I have avoided buying any more tests too, it's not worth the worry!! I have an early scan booked in for a week on Saturday, did you get yours booked in? xx

laurapop · 04/05/2023 12:18

@Molly2023 I took one last week expecting it to say 3+ as i was 5+5. Obviously panicked and ended up booking a HCG blood test. My results came back at over 5000 which was way above what the 3+ threshold should be!! I know its hard and I didn't believe it until it happened to me, but they are really not reliable for dating. Hopefully you can relax a bit til youre scan - i know its such an anxious time x

Molly2023 · 04/05/2023 14:46

@laurapop thanks for your message! So nice to know I'm lot alone. My husband thinks I've lost it all together. I couldn't resist and did another one and now reading 2-3. I'm 5 weeks today based on my usual 26 day cycle but 4 +5 based on LMP. Was going to book in to do bloods but actually quite pricey as would have to go private. I'll definitely do a scan though. Congratulations by the way 🎊

@Jx3303 oh how exciting only a few days away. I'm planning to do one on the 18th cannot wait but also so nervous! X
