Subchorionic hematomas

Hello Everyone,

I am currently 8 weeks 6 days pregnant. Last week I was getting light brown discharge when I wipe, about once or twice a day. Went to the epu yesterday and they said I have a small bleed called a subchorionic hematomas. They have not rebooked me in and I just have to monitor to see if the bleeding/discharge gets heavier. Was just wondering if anyone has had this and did it resolve on its own? Obviously I am now worrying about miscarriage. I have a 13 year old daughter already so it’s been a while since I’ve been pregnant and I am also 13 years older! Any advice or stories would be appreciated as I hadn’t heard of this until yesterday. Many thanks

Hi, did they measure the hematoma? I had one in my last pregnancy diagnosed at 5+6 weeks and unfortunately I mc at 8 weeks but the hematoma was bigger than the baby. However I will say, it may not have been the hematoma that caused the mc. I am currently 12+1 and got diagnosed with a sch at 6+5 as I'd been spotting. It wasn't as big as last time but they gave me progesterone due to the previous mc and I've not had anything since. I go for my 12 week scan on Thursday so I'm hoping it has reabsorbed into my body.

If you are on Facebook search for subchorionic hematoma groups as there are people from all over the world with experience of them. Be aware though there are both good and bad stories. Wishing you all the best in your pregnancy ❤️

Thank you! She said it was small about 1cm and above my cervix, I can’t find anything online with it being there. I have a private scan on 10th May so hoping everything will be ok then. I’ve waited such a long time to get pregnant, now the constant worry of miscarriage is playing on my mind.

I had one and bled on and off from 4-8 weeks. Heavy bright red with cramps. Terrifying. By 12 weeks it had resolved and I'm now 34 weeks along. I'm not sure how big mine was but they said at a scan at 6 weeks (when it was discovered) that it shouldn't cause any issues because it wasn't very big (probably because I had already bled so much!) and not near baby or placenta.
Hope you'll continue to have a healthy pregnancy! X

I had one and had some bleeding around the 7/8 week mark. It had fully absorbed by my dating scan, and I’m 18 weeks now. Mine was also just above my cervix and away from the baby. It’s scary but apparently fairly common x

Thanks everyone. Hopefully everything will be ok :)

I had one with my 7 year old. I was lucky and didn't have any bleeding. It just reabsorbed.

I had one and had bleeding at 8 weeks and again at 15 weeks. Then bled on and off brown blood pretty much the rest of the pregnancy. Baby was fine and is now a happy 2.5 year old

I have one and I bled from 6-10 weeks non stop but I'm 14 weeks now and it's stopped bleeding but still there. Since I'm not currently bleeding I'm not worrying as all scans have shown baby to be fine thank goodness.
Consultant said it is quite large, 60% apparently but I think they can go away and come back frequently too.

I had a short bleed caused by SCH at 12 weeks that hasn't recurred at all since (17 weeks now). Apparently it's hugely common.

I had this - I had some dark brown tinted discharge for a little bit then had a scan at 5weeks 5 days I think - they saw a little haematoma behind the gestational sack and just told me that it will either come out as dark brown or it’ll be reabsorbed. Luckily I didn’t have any brown discharge and it just sort of reabsorbed within 2 weeks ish (went for another scan)

only if it’s fresh bright red blood they said I need to come back

I had one of these and bled on and off until about 14 weeks. Then found out at 20 weeks I had placenta preavia but thankfully I didn't bleed anymore until I actually went into labour.
