How far along am I?

Confirmed pregnancy yesterday. Lmp was 18th march-23rd so would be 6 weeks according to last period. I did have brown spotting 2nd,3rd,4th,5th so don't know if that counted as a second period and maybe it counted from then. My conception indicator is saying 1-2 so I'm 3-4 weeks? So I'm very confused😅

Spotting can be normal in pregnancy. If it wasn't like your normal period then you go from your last proper period on 18th March. So day 1 of your pregnany is 18th March.

Chellybelle · 30/04/2023 13:28

So 6 weeks 1 day.

So 6 weeks 1 day.

thank you. I thought you add 2 weeks onto conception so 3-4. Also my lines are still quite faint so surely I can't be 6 weeks?

Surely I'd have stronger lines for 6 weeks?

No, if you fell on the cycle starting 18th March, the foetus is only 4 weeks old but you say you are 6 weeks pregnant. As you were on your period on 18th March you were not actually pregnant yet, but thats just the way pregnancy is calculated. So 6 weeks.

ChloeN · 30/04/2023 13:59

@orange516 with your weeks indicator I get what you’re saying it makes more sense for you to be between 3-4 weeks rather than 6!

Chellybelle · 30/04/2023 14:01

Something is not adding up though. They are pretty faint and if you were 6 weeks your digital tests should say more than 1 to 2.

Do you think it's worth getting another digital and using with fmu? According to the faint lines and digital I'd say I'm 3-4 weeks but according to period I'd be 6 so no idea what's going on.

However with the brown spotting I'm wondering if I had that instead of a period because if I counted from the first day I had it I'd be 4 weeks today so that's about right

Yeah maybe, but I'd give it a couple of days. If everything is going as it should with the pregnancy, your hcg should develop over the next few days and your lines should go darker or weeks progress.

Chellybelle · 30/04/2023 14:11

It depends if you spotting was a period or not. Do you ever have that normally? So if you had a period on the 2nd, you would have ovulated around the 12th to 14th. So you would be around 4 weeks ( foetus about 2 weeks old). Its confusing to get your head around.

mammy202223 · 30/04/2023 14:17

While pregnancies are counted from day 1 of your last cycle, if you ovulated later in your cycle you won't be as far pregnant as you think you are which could be why your tests aren't as strong as others who are 6 weeks pregnant.

Your midwife will use the first day of your last period to estimate your due date, however your dating scan will give you a more accurate date! Congratulations !!

I ovulated late with my second child as I should have been 6+0 pregnant at an early scan but was measuring 5+1
I swear the sperm must have survived 2 weeks because my DH went to France so I wasn't convinced I'd fall pregnant anyway as we DTD before ovulation (about 3-4 days before I think ... he's 11 now so may be fluffy memory there).

I'd be inclined to buy one that tells you how many weeks pregnant you are, but don't read too
Much into the LMP as you can ovulate later - it's a good guide but not gospel

So do you reckon I'm 6+1 or between 3-4? Guessing by the fainter lines I reckon I'm earlier but I've had some symptoms like sickness, sore boobs etc very early on which makes me feel like I'm 6 weeks.

The POAS aren't good indicators of how pregnant you are really as you may not have had much that hit the stick - was it first wee?

What ?? I don't mean to be rude but where do people get information like this? If the tests have processed correctly (ie showed a result in both windows) enough urine has been collected by the dipstick to show a result.

What effects the strength of the tests is dilution of urine, more diluted wee will show fainter lines during early pregnancy, less diluted wee will show stronger lines, which is why it's recommended to do tests with your first morning urine ( and try to only compare tests taken at this time with each other so as to not stress over fainter lines etc)

Chellybelle · 30/04/2023 15:46

I think if you're past the point of a missed period, it doesn't matter as much about first wee. That's normally when you may be testing earlier in your cycle and the pregnany hormone will not be as strong. Then you want the urine to be as concentrated as possible.

@mammy202223 - I was trying to make it easy to understand I actually have a PhD in biochemistry so I do know, I perhaps was dumbing it down too much.

My previous cycle was 16 days as I was on the implant so it messed my periods up. I noticed a pattern that on the 2nd of April (when spotting started) it was cycle day 16! So no there was no blood (sorry tmi) but possibility it could've been instead of a period as it was 4 days long and my periods are about 5 days long.
