When did your bump come?

I'm almost 24 weeks with my first and barely have anything to show for it. You'd not even know I was pregnant when wearing a loose fitting top. So I was wondering, when did others bumps show properly?

I'll be coming into getting my first bump measurements soon and I'm anxious about what the midwife will say regarding size.

Heyy, with my first I didn't show until 30 weeks. My bump also measured small at every measurement so I went for extra scans and baby measured big. He just tucked himself away somewhere. He was born at 38 weeks and 7lbs. Hes now nearly 5 and almost as big as me 😅

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 29/04/2023 17:44

About seven months.

No one believed I was pregnant.

I was told I was ‘deluded’ three days before my due date because my bump was small and there was no way I was that far along.

Everyone’s different.

I could still wear some pairs of normal Jeans at 20 weeks, but formal trousers I was in maternity at 16 weeks

H2023 · 29/04/2023 17:50

I’d say a proper bump at about 28 weeks, he was 8lb9 and people asked where I’d been hiding him 😂

TwinMumma2be · 29/04/2023 18:51

Im 29 weeks with twins and have only just started getting a bump. They could be tucked away, you could have good strong abdomen muscles and they have said height can effect this too if you are tall? They have more room to stretch out. Dont worry too much every bump is different

Don’t worry about the midwife side of things- even sometimes people who look massive ‘measure’ correctly and people with no discernible bump have the top of their uterus exactly where it’s supposed to be! What you look like isn’t an accurate gauge of baby growing necessarily, it’s down to how the midwife can feel the top of your uterus. X

At 7 months no one could tell I was pregnant, at 32 weeks I finally couldn’t do up my normal jeans, I only looked pregnant if people knew I was pregnant. I didn’t tell many people for various reasons so most were shocked when we announced the birth.

TinyTeacher · 29/04/2023 20:09

I was a little further along that you with my first when I started showing. None of the children at school noticed anything until I was 7 months. However had a bit of a bump at 11 weeks with my twins! Pregnant again now, but only 12 weeks so no bump yet. Especially with first pregnancies there is a LOT of variety in when you start to have a proper bump.

Hazelnuttella · 29/04/2023 20:14

Don’t worry. If the measurements aren’t as expected you might be sent for a scan to check on the baby’s growth.

I was constantly being sent for scans because my bump was smaller than expected, and every one of them showed the baby was bigger than average and was 8lb when he was born.

Different women do carry differently and it depends on the baby’s position as well.

shivawn · 29/04/2023 20:18

Around 20 weeks but you wouldn't have seen it in clothes, by 26 weeks it was quite obvious.

I'm pregnant with my second now and at 11 weeks I can already see a small bump.

katemulberrybush · 30/04/2023 09:02

Instantly. I was in mat clothes from about 2 months

WandaWonder · 30/04/2023 09:08

Never, we did wonder what the neighbours thought when we kept on bringing baby stuff home

Clarita191 · 30/04/2023 15:07

Embrace this time. I didn't have a proper bump with my first until I was about 30weeks... we then had a very hot June and July and I turned into a swollen, staggering pregnant mama. Had to carry spare pants everywhere because my bump made my crotch sweat so much and I could only wear flip flops and sometimes even they wouldn't fit my trotters. People started to look nervous around me around 36 weeks because my bump was huge and my healthy little girl was born weighing 8lbs 5. Enjoy the very weird in between time because your bump will come soon enough 🙃

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 30/04/2023 15:08

Seven months, then I looked like I was expecting triplets one month later!

PBandJs · 30/04/2023 15:53

Other end of the spectrum but I was told before pregnancy by a few older women that I’d have a tiny bump because I’m tall and slim with strong abs, and then when I announced at 12 weeks I was asked a few times if I’m sure it isn’t twins, and then repeatedly told I’m big ever since and am I sure my due date is correct.

I have one friend who is the same height and build as me but 4 weeks ahead, and she started popping slightly at 22 weeks but can still hide it really well. Another at her due date was probably the same size I am now and she had a really healthy big baby, it was just tucked away very neatly.

I was starting to get a bit concerned so I asked at my last midwife appt if I’m an ok size, especially for my first baby. She very passionately told me that all bumps are completely different and there is no one size or shape that is ‘right’ because there are so many individual factors involved, but measurements are used as a general guide and they can double check with scans if necessary. She also said not to pay any mind to anyone that comments on my bump unless they’re a trained medical professional.

I know how unnerving it is and hope your midwife can give you the reassurance needed ❤️

First - I would say four and a half/five months.

Second - instant I found out I looked pregnant

Nine years on from second still look three months pregnant despite losing all the weight.

Love your strong stomach muscles and stretch mark free skin!!
