Hi everyone, I had a miscarriage in jan at 7weeks. I have just found out I am pregnant again, only 4+2. Iv been having occasional cramping but Insomnia is the most noticeable symptom. I fall asleep ok then wake up after 2hrs and that’s it for the whole night! Has anyone else experienced this and is there anything I can do to help? I work full time so finding it draining already! Thanks!

@CMG92 I don't have any tips but wanted to say I'm in the same boat! Only found out I'm pregnant yesterday and think I'm 4+1, last night I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for over 2 hours. I've also been finding it hard to fall asleep over the past few days, it's exhausting. It might just be the nerves/excitement as we've finally had some good news after fertility treatment, think I'll try winding down with less phone time before bed later to see if that works. So sorry about your miscarriage as well, really hope everything goes well and you get some more restful nights moving forward!

I'm 28 weeks and have had it all through this pregnancy. It improved during the second trimester a bit, but is slowly coming back again. Not much I can suggest besides good sleep hygiene. I think mine is linked with anxiety as well as pregnancy related things too.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 27/04/2023 12:46

I had this. I actually slept so much better with a newborn than I did while pregnant.

The only thing I can really recommend is keep off your phone when you wake up. I'd just wake myself up more and then scroll mumsnet for hours in the middle of the night.

Bims2019 · 27/04/2023 13:45

Thanks @FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee and @babybrainfart, good to know we're not the only ones! I totally agree around anxiety, I don't think that's helped at all and I'm terrible for overthinking. I've got some pillow spray thing which I'll try, and good tip about sleep hygiene and keeping off the phone after waking up - this was me last night and definitely made it harder to get back to sleep!

CMG92 · 27/04/2023 14:42

@Bims2019 I slept a lot better last night so hopefully its not a 1 off! Hopefully you feel ok throughout and good luck with your pregnancy too, I can only imagine how emotionally draining having fertility is so pleased it’s worked 🥰🥰

Magnesium helped with my insomnia in early pregnancy although I don’t think I took it in first trimester. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Allosaur · 28/04/2023 02:56

I had it SO BAD in first trimester! I think at one point I didn't sleep for 3 days straight. Doc said I could take diphrendramine - which is a sedative anti-histamine, can get OTC, but if you're looking to take anything, please check with your GP/midwife first as mine isn't the greatest. It worked a little bit. It improved in second trimester, was sleeping all the time. I'm now 32 weeks and it's back with a vengeance! It must be the hormones but it's getting me down a lot, I went to bed at 10:30, woke up a couple hours ago and can't get back to sleep. It's honestly so frustrating and my heart goes out to you.

CMG92 · 28/04/2023 07:14

@Allosaur @Springbaby2023 ah sorry to hear you both suffered with it too! I have had 2 nights where iv slept better so hoping it’s gone away for a bit now! There is nothing worse than being tired and not sleeping! Good luck with both your pregnancy’s, not long left for you @Springbaby2023 x

I had another night of waking up at 4:30 for a good hour. It's so frustrating, but I find if I focus on my breathing and counting it does send me back to sleep eventually. I breath in and on the out breath I breath out slower eg breath in for 5, breath out for 7. I find the slightest noise or even a dream wakes me straight up.

PaintedEgg · 28/04/2023 11:57

I pretty much did not sleep a single, full night for majority of my first trimester. I'd fall asleep for short naps during the day and feel tired in the evening the like clockwork - wide awake between 2am and 6am, feeling desperately tired and unable to fall asleep

eventually i just gave up stressing about it and tried to get through my life catching my naps when and where I could

NicolaRose · 01/05/2023 22:01

Sorry to hear of your loss but congrats too!

I read the title and thought me too lol. I can fall asleep fine but then I wake up after a couple hours and can’t seem to fall deep asleep again or if I do I wake up every hour.

I’ve cut things like fizzy drinks before bed and just try not to nap late (that bits hard by the time I’m done with work at like 6 I just want to sleep). Can’t lie I haven’t yet found the one thing that helps most definitely so I will be keeping an eye on this thread! Best of luck x

CMG92 · 02/05/2023 02:31

@babybrainfart @NicolaRose @babybrainfart well I had a few nights relief and it’s back again tonight 215am 🤨😴😴 I wouldn’t mind if I didn’t have to go to work, but I feel exhausted and it’s only Tuesday 😰

I had it all the way through pregnancy. Would wake up at 3/4am for two hours for no reason. It was strange. But gets you ready for the lack of sleep with a newborn!

Thack · 02/05/2023 04:07

12weeks, very much awake and scrolling on MN! Had this with my first too, it is such a pain.
First trimester is draining, get plenty of rest op

PaintedEgg · 02/05/2023 07:12

@Sleepingbeauty2510 way to cheer everyone up :D

Is anyone else getting very vivid dreams? I've had some stranger dreams that felt so real I'd wake up and question reality for few seconds

Unfortunately this included nightmares too :/
