Could this be the early stage of labour?

Hi, I'm 37+1 weeks pregnant and not sure if I'm in very early labour. The pains started last night and felt like very sharp period pains or that I needed to go to the loo (but I didn't need to and haven't had any constipation recently)... they carried on inconsistently for about 2 hours and then stopped, had a few pains over night and then just general discomfort, the pains have then started up again this morning/this afternoon. It feels like sharp stabbing pains or like I need the toilet but only slight hardening and no obvious tightening of the belly. The pains are sometimes very short or sometimes linger so its not easy to track how long or how often they come.
This is my first baby so any personal experiences of what it might be or if it could possibly be very early labour would be appreciated?

I’ve had on and off pains similar to this for two weeks now (I’m 39+2). I think it is just our bodies gearing up for labour. Keep an eye on them, if they start becoming closer together or more intense you’ll soon notice. Or obviously any concerns speak to midwife, but sounds normal!
