Labour pains or trapped wind? 40 weeks

Hi everyone, FTM here and currently 40 weeks. Was awake for 2 hours in the night with cramps/stomach gripes on the whole of my upper stomach. It didnt come and go every 10mins etc like you’d expect from contractions, more constant for 10mins, go away for 10, back for 5 type thing until I went back to sleep. Had it a little throughout the day but much more intense again now. Same as before though, more constant gripe pain rather than what I’d expect contractions are like.

Has anyone else had this? Wishful thinking it could turn into labour! Or is it just trapped wind? Very impatient here now lol!

Oh, just to add its also making me feel a little nauseous like I’ve got a stomach bug or something

When I started with contractions with my first I knew right away what it was, it was unmistakable. The pain was over my whole bump.

But sometimes weird aches and pains do happen before labour, you never know! Good luck

I had what I thought was trapped wind (awful!) all day Sunday. Labour pains started Monday night and baby was born Tuesday night Smile

Good luck!

Lol if it’s labour you’ll soon find out about it.

Thanks everyone! Really hoping it’s the start of something as I am very much done now! Will try not to get my hopes up though lol

Yeah labour doesn’t really feel at all like trapped wind.

Have you tried doing some fart stretches? Get down on all fours, shoulders low to the ground, arch your back so your bum is nice and high, and rock backwards and forwards. That’ll help the air move towards the exit <ahem>

Smith5522 · 20/04/2023 20:03

Hahaha thanks, will give that a go 😂

Just bear in mind that a symptom of preeclampsia is pain across the top of your bump and nausea/vomiting. I had the pain about 12 hours on and off before it went away again (preeclampsia was diagnosed just under a week later). Might be sensible to keep an eye on any other symptoms, or mention it to your midwife if you're able to contact them.

Ok thank you, will keep an eye on it. I have a midwife appt tomorrow so will ask them then :)

My early labour pains felt like trapped wind at the base of my bump so I didn’t believe I was in labour. Turns out I was, you’ll
know soon if it is!
