33 weeks baby engaged - how long to Labour?

at my 33 week appointment my midwife checked me and looked shocked and said baby is fully engaged, any pains go straight in.

this is my second baby, i had an emergency C-section with my first & didn’t get past 5cm.

I asked if he would come back out, she said no as he’s fully engaged deep into my pelvis.

those that have had babies engaged early on when did you give birth? Just need to work out if I need to finish my bag!

After the first birth engagement doesn't mean much. Baby can disengage completely and re-engage as well. I was engaged at 34 weeks, not engaged at 38 weeks and gave birth at 38+2 for my second child

I'd have my bag ready at 36 weeks regardless. I don't think engagement means an awful lot, you've probably got a way to go x

I was told the same as @Landsmen by my mw. My 2nd was engaged at 34 weeks but popped in and out of engagement until I was induced at 39 weeks. She was fully engaged at my 38 week scan and they couldn't measure her head properly but she still took ages to be evicted.

my first was fully engaged at an early stage (around a similar time to you) and the only thing it meant was I couldn’t walk too well! He came at 39 weeks! My second has now been bobbing in and out of engagement i’m 39 weeks and no sign yet.

Mine has popped in and out of being deeply or fully engaged for the last umpteen weeks, currently 40+4 and still waiting (also 2nd baby).... No other signs of anything happening any time soon either, 😩

My dd was fully engaged at 32 weeks and never budged that whole time. Still didn't come until 41+2 🙄

UnicornRainbowSky · 20/04/2023 20:39

My first was ahead down and engaged at like 30 weeks but didn't come until 41+3. Doesn't seem to mean much

I’m surprised your midwife was shocked. It’s well known that babies can engage and pop back out especially with second or more pregnancies. It also doesn’t mean that labour is close, it can happen weeks before labour or it can happen during labour. It really makes no difference. Was she a student?

DD2 was like this at 32 weeks, stayed there until 41+2 when I gave birth 🤦‍♀️

Doesn’t mean anything, I was engaged early on and still went over
