Low Papp-A in pregnancy

Hi all, I am 15w pregnant after IVF and have just been told I have low Papp-A (0.35). I just got sent a letter in the post and it has no mention of aspirin or anything. Should I be worried that I have not been asked to take it? I have my 16week appointment next week with the midwife, should I ask if I can take it? I feel really anxious to not do anything. Would appreciate positive stories about pregnancies with low Papp-A also.

I've been there, was told after the 12 week scan that I had low PAPP-A. Worried myself silly for a long time, googling way too much, especially as I'd had a loss in my previous pregnancy.
I've been on 150mg aspirin daily since the day I was told and will take it until 36 weeks so do ask you midwife. You could also just buy it for yourself from the shops. It has been suggested to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia and increase blood-flow from the placenta to the baby. In any case, it won't harm you or the baby as long as you don't have any other underlying medical issues that prevent you from taking it.
To give you some reassurance, I'm now 32 weeks along, have had two extra growth scans and baby is looking perfect so far. If anything changes, it'll be picked up during the next scan(s) and routine appointments. That's the reason they test for papp-a these days, just so they can keep an extra eye on you. But my midwife also said that it's just a risk factor, not a diagnosis. In 90% of low PAPP-A pregnancies, there is nothing to worry about.

Exactly the same experience as @UnicornRainbowSky except I'm 34 weeks.

Went to the chemist after my 12 week scan and bought aspirin as recommended by the sonographer who also gave me an info leaflet on it.

Been on 150mg a day since then and will stop at 36 weeks.

Get yourself some aspirin and chat to your midwife about it next week ☺️

I’d definitely ask about it. My midwife said to me late in the pregnancy that I should have been on it - of course no one said to me. Anyway didn’t matter as had healthy pregnancy and baby was larger than average and not small.

Hi op, I had low papp-a with my first. I wasn't given anything to take but was given extra growth scans. At 36 weeks they predicted baby would be born at 7lb at full term (40 weeks). She was born at 38 weeks, just short of 9 pounds. Very healthy baby and an uncomplicated pregnancy.

I've been told today I have low Papp-a, I'm 13 weeks tomorrow. I was advised to start aspirin, my hospital have written to my GP so I can get it prescribed and I have bought some today to have until I get my prescription. I'd defo ask your midwife at your next appointment. Already been told I will have at least 3 extra growth scans.

I had low Papp a. There's a really good Facebook page that offers advice and support with lots of positive stories. Really helped to reassure me!

My low Papp a baby was born at 40+6, 7lb 13. Took aspirin from 12-37 weeks.

Hi, I had low PAPP-A (0.26) and was put on aspirin daily. I worried myself sick throughout the whole pregnancy but my wonderful daughter is now 2 years old and was 8lb 5oz when she was born with no complications. Definitely ring the hospital re the aspirin or midwife, don't wait until your next appointment as it's more effective the earlier you start. Congratulations and please don't spend hours googling like I did!

Thank you everyone - I really appreciate your messages. I called my midwife this morning and she's said that yes, I should be actually on aspirin. I would never have known if I hadn't called! My consultant appointment isn't until mid May and she said its better to start taking it now. So I've been advised to just buy it over the counter so I'll be doing that today 😊
