HELP! No embryo and small gestational sac at 6 weeks

Just had a private scan at 6w+1 day (exact dates as IVF pregnancy) and the gestational sac was 4.7mm with a yolk sac but no embryo. From all my googling it sounds very much like a miscarriage :( but wondering if anyone has had similar with positive outcomes ? Any feedback very much appreciated. Thank you.

What did the sonographer say?

was there any reason why you went for an early pricate?

Pri2001 · 19/04/2023 15:59

He said come back in 2 weeks...wouldn't conclusively say anything.

Private scan just for reassurance. We've been trying for 2 years , u explained infertility as all tests normal. First round of IVF

I'm sorry but in my experience you will miscarry.

Pri2001 · 19/04/2023 15:59

:(

Was hoping for a miracle but I guess I have to face reality

Has this happened to you ?

I would stop having the reassurance scans they cause the opposite and expense. Go to the epu if you start bleeding , I think reassurance scans in early pregnancy should be banned unless bleeding etc.

Cleoforever · 19/04/2023 16:05

Yes agreed

definitely hold off on the “reassurance scans”

Pri2001 · 19/04/2023 16:08

Fair enough. I'm on cyclogest so I feel this would mask any miscarriage symptoms such as bleeding

Yes. Some people told me it would all work out (not based on any experience or knowledge!) and I found the false hope and reassurance unhelpful.

@Pri2001 sorry for the insensitive comments above, those who haven't done IVF can frankly bog off with their 'don't have reassurance scans' nonsense.

Have you had your first scan from the clinic? If not, when is that due? I would ring your clinic and ask them to pull that forward if they can.

At 6 weeks, I went for a scan and they couldn't even find the bloody baby. Told me it was definitely ectopic, gave me all the paperwork to start the process to end the pregnancy... on my way out of the clinic I was sobbing and my favourite nurse said 'let's have another look' and there was the baby......! High up but absolutely fine, just not as they expected. She's now 2. I tell you this story to reassure you that sometimes they get it wrong.

I know the waiting must feel brutal and unmanageable, which is why I suggest ringing your clinic and asking them to rescan you earlier than the 2 weeks.

Pri2001 · 19/04/2023 16:14

Thank you! That's reassuring although sadly for me they did see the sacs, just no embryo :( and the size of it is very worrying. My scan with the clinic is in 10 days . Happy it worked out for u :)

Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I'd definitely ring your clinic and see if they'll see you before, even a few days time will give you a better idea about how things are progressing x

Pri2001 · 19/04/2023 16:20

Thank you

Sorry to hear.

Sorry to hear you're in this situation. I had IVF and my 1st pregnancy ended at 6 weeks in same circumstances, egg sac but no embryo seen. I was told at the time that it can sometimes work out OK but in my case it didn't. I had a scan at 6 weeks and again at 8 weeks to confirm. Really rubbish situation to be in, sorry xx

@Pri2001 how did this work out for you? Fellow IVF’er in same situation
