Is this high blood pressure/start of pre-eclampsia?

Hi all,
At my last check-up (I was 27weeks+4days), my blood pressure measured 125/75.
The midwife was very happy with this measurement and said everything looked perfect.

Now I'm looking at charts for blood pressure, and it does seem like 125/75 would put me in the 'elevated' category, so surely nothing 'perfect'? High blood pressure during pregnancy | March of Dimes

125/75 is in what is considered the normal range according to the NHS. It's not considered high until above 140/90.

What is your blood pressure like normally?

Hi @Olegia Im in a similar position so glad you’ve posted.

I’m normally low around 90/60 or lower so it’s high for me but MW wasn’t worried even though I’ve got rib pain too but my urine etc was ok but I’m so worried!

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2023 16:33

That's not a concerning blood pressure, look out for other signs though such as headaches that won't go away with painkillers or blurred vision. Protein in urine is another but midwife should test that every appointment too.

Garman · 19/04/2023 17:34

That's normal blood pressure, stop googling.

Well actually my blood pressure has fluctuated throughout my midwife appointments (120/65, 110/60, 100/60, 130/85...)
I guess they don't wait for you to have settled down and calmed down, so there should always be a margin of error.

I would listen to your midwife, if it hasn’t been flagged as a concern then they are not worried.

DaisyMay25 · 20/04/2023 07:29

@Olegia if it was high they'd wait ten minutes and redo it to rule that out

Mightyouandiconfabulate · 20/04/2023 07:31

My blood pressure with pre eclampsia was 180/110, around that, sometimes higher sometimes just below that.

Does that give you an idea of high blood pressure associated with pre eclampsia.

It was quite a sudden rise too along side headaches, seeing floaters, extremely swollen feet, ankles, fingers and face. I felt very very unwell.

BP does fluctuate even taken a minute apart, that's why it's important to take an average from readings. You have nothing concerning from your normal readings.

125/75 sounds perfectly normal to me. I get white coat hypertension so my blood pressure was always high at appointments. They even got me to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor just to check what my normal pressure was.

Mine was higher than that and also very sudden at 26 weeks. Midwife offered to drive me to hospital where I stayed until I had ds at 32 weeks.

Dyra · 20/04/2023 08:23

All of those other readings are normal too tbf.

IME (mild pre-eclampsia twice) it wasn't until BP was past the 140/90 mark (after a repeat reading) that the midwives were even mildly alarmed. Though if it was close to 140/90, they did a repeat just to make sure. They really don't mess around with even the prospect of pre-eclampsia.

Once BP was past 140/90 I always had protein in my urine by that point (34 weeks with both), so I can't speak to hypertension that isn't pre-eclampsia.
