Advice please regarding ovulation/first cycle after a D&C

Good morning ladies,

Another thread from me seeking advice as I found something I need to ask questions about this morning!

So, I had a D&C for a MMC on 12/03 and my first AF arrived on Sunday 16/04 which was exactly 5 weeks after my D&C.

We are desperate to get pregnant again straight away, so we are going to start trying again this cycle and I am using Clearblue OPK's.

So I started testing with these yesterday (cycle day 2) which I know is waaaaay too early but we are literally that keen we do not want to even risk missing my ovulation this cycle. So I took a digital test yesterday and was a blank circle (no ovulation) which of course I expected so early on... I took another test again today with my morning wee and it was a flashing smiley!?!?! How can this even be possible on day 3 of my cycle, surely it can't, can it? I am wondering it must be picking something else up?

I have had a negative Clearblue pregnancy test since my D&C which are obviously very sensitive, I did wonder at first this morning if it could be leftover HCG but if I have already had a negative test then I am guessing not?

Could anybody shed any light on this situation to help me please or let me know if you have experienced anything similar to this?

Thank you!

@lmp69 I had to give up on the cb digital opks because I always got a flashing smiley on my second day then it would flash and flash and flash one cycle it flashed for 12 days. I had 2 MC last year and used them after I had negative tests. I don't know if my hormones were all a bit crazy from that still and that's why they flashed for so long or if they just didn't work very well for me. I found strip opks much easier in the end

@bringmearainbow Thank you for commenting and sharing your experience with me.

I hope you don't mind me asking but have you managed to conceive again using the strip OPK's? And if so, how long did this take you?

I used them a few times between my MC and negative test as I wanted to check if I was going to ovulate between my D&C and my next cycle but they were constantly flashing then. I did think this was down to leftover HCG as my period hadn't returned by that point but I was hoping now Clearblue ones would be trustworthy again but it seems not yet :(!

@lmp69 no probs any questions ask away 😊 we conceived this last cycle I am about 5 weeks so still early days. I finally got a negative test 3 cycles ago but my middle cycle DH was away in FW so we missed our chance there completely.

I found the premom app quite useful if you're unsure on the strip opks you upload a picture and it tells you the level although tbh I never had a problem deciphering mine as they went from almost nothing to dark within about 12 hours but I know some people don't get that. I only got the cbs because I was being lazy 😂 I think I did read somewhere that they don't recommend them after a MC maybe that's why 🤔

@bringmearainbow Well a huge congratulations and wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Well thank you for your advice as you have already helped me!

I did actually have some strip OPK's left over from when we were trying last time, I stopped using them last time and used the Clearblue OPK's as obviously I thought they were more reliable, which obviously they were last time but it seems this time not!

I tested with a strip test this morning which the control line was very, very faint (as I would expect at this stage) and also used a CB digital which yet again was flashing this morning! I know I am obviously not ovulating as it is way too early in my cycle so now I think the strips may be the best way forward for me too, especially this cycle.

I will keep testing with these every day and will hopefully ovulate next week and then I can pray to the heavens above that it happens! xx

@lmp69 thank you 🥰 sounds like a good plan good luck and lots of baby dust! Hopefully you won't need to use any opks after this cycle 🤞🏼

Really sorry for your loss OP! Hope you're doing ok.

I had a MMC last year and we decided to try again straight away, didn't even wait for my period. I didn't use OPK's that cycle but I was 100% I was ovulating because I had the typical egg-white like discharge and my ovaries were hurting like hell. So do also pay attention to those signs. Apparently you can be more fertile in the months after a MC which was definitely true in my case. It had taken us 8 months to conceive the one that ended in MC and I then got pregnant again literally 3 weeks after the surgery.

Sending you lots of baby dust! x

@UnicornRainbowSky Hey and thank you for commenting!

I think I did ovulate also before my period, I felt the ovulation pains and according to my normal cycle before my MC the timing would have been about right. Obviously we didn't catch then though, but just hoping we can this month and that it can be successful! I am using strip OPK's and temping and will keep an eye out for ovulation pains.

I have heard too that you are more fertile after a MC, especially for the first 3 months or so, so we are holding onto that hope and hoping it can happen to us too!

Congratulations 😊❤

Really sorry to read on everyone’s loses, it’s heart breaking. I hope everyone is doing ok❤️

I have a question I’m hoping someone might be able to help with. I had a D&C 19 days ago. I tracked my hcg down to almost undetectable level, very very faint line CD 12, 13 and 14 but since CD 15 the line got darker and has stayed dark the last few days.

I don’t know if this would happen if I had retained product or if I ovulated CD12/13 or 14 (we did dtd so it’s possible to be a new pregnancy) but would it start showing in hcg after only a few days? I’m so confused

thanks so much for any light

Op - the flashy smile thing happens for 48 hours once you’ve had one regardless of what wee goes on it. Also I think they measure a rise in LH, so if you start earlier in your cycle it may notice a big rise but it not actually be ovulation.

but I really hope you are ovulating and have my fingers crossed for uou.
