Pregnant after miscarriage with no period in between - how to date pregnancy?

Hi all,

I had a miscarriage on 26th Feb and I took a pregnancy test on 31st March and got a BFP. I was dating the pregnancy from the date I had the bleeding which would make me 7 weeks however I have had a call from the midwife today saying as they can’t be sure on dates they are going to date me 2 weeks before I took the pregnancy test which only makes me 4 weeks.

I'm just conscious of being further along than what they are saying and missing the 12 week tests.

has anyone had experiences with this and when did they date you from/ did your dates end up moving a lot when you eventually had a scan?

Thank you!

First day will be day of miscarriage usually, had to do some research into this as praying the same thing happens this cycle

Normally first of bleeding they'll count as CD1.
Your dates will be knocked forward/back by I'd say atleast a week.

Have you had HCG done?
I would be inclined to ask EPU for an early scan or go private

Use a clear bue week indicator this dates from conception (then add 2 weeks) hope that helps.. just an idea OP

They dated me from the first day of bleeding so counted it like a period. It was pretty accurate as I ovulated CD16/17 so it was only out by 2 days which was confirmed at the 12 week scan

counting back 2 weeks before your bfp could put you around 2 weeks out so seems a strange way to do it. 4 weeks before would be more accurate.

I thought this was the case! I will let you know what happens with my experience

@Sunshineclouds11 I haven’t checked my HCG… would this be done at the doctors?

I think I will just wait a few weeks and then book a private scan… annoying as I didn’t want to have to pay for one but I also don’t want to miss the 12 week checks!

@allgoodthings84 thank you for this! It’s good to know your date was only moved by a few days.

I also thought this was a really strange way of doing it and if I’m out by 2 weeks this would mean I would miss getting the 12 week tests done as the midwife said they can’t be done past 14 weeks which I will probably be 14 weeks at my 12 week scan if I go by the hospital dates!

I think I will book a private scan for peace of mind.
