Hi I'm pregnant with twins currently 21 weeks and have low iron (level is 101)
I'm feeling shortness of breath even on sitting down/doing nothing at times.
Midwife has said to take ferrous sulphate which I'm taking but it can take 2/3 weeks to take effect. Has anyone got any advice. Thanks much appreciated x

I don't have any advice really except take your iron tablets. I've been suffering from low iron for the past month and a half, iron level was 99 so similar to yourself. It unfortunately didn't rise very much (only to 103) 4 weeks after taking ferrous sulphate twice a day, so I'm still exhausted and feeling dizzy and nauseous all the time. Hopefully your tablets work and you feel better soon!!

Adjust your diet. Lots of iron rich foods. Red meats, dark leafy greens, if you boil any veg keep the water to make soups or gravy. Vitamin C helps iron absorption and calcium blocks it so be conscious about what you’re eating with it. I was borderline with my last pregnancy and my midwife doesn’t like to give tablets unless she has too so told me to do that, 2 weeks later my iron levels had jumped up considerably.

No advice but you have my sympathy. I’m going through the same thing and it’s horrid. My job means a lot of talking and I’ve had to take some time off as I just can’t catch my breath. It’s scary.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had this and used liquid iron poured I to a glass of orange juice. it tasted fowl as the iron was in a chocolate mint solution -(why?!) but it worked to up it to a level that I didn't need to get an iv iron infusion in the end
