So I'm 8 weeks 2 days today and I honestly have never felt so disgusting, so far ever since I found out I'm pregnant (literally a month ago today) I have only eaten junk food, I'm talking McDonald's breakfast, McDonald's burgers, KFC, crisps, popcorn, sausages and bacon, chocolate and sweets. I genuinely don't think I've ever been so unhealthy.

Generally even before pregnancy I wasn't a big fruit eater anyways, the only fruit I like is melon and strawberries, I prefer vegetables but I work shift work and half the time Im too tired or feel nauseous and can't cook food but I really need to start eating healthily, has anyone got any tips or any ideas on how to try and help make this easier and junk food less appealing! This is my first proper pregnancy after chemical pregnancies and miscarriages, it's taken us 4 years to get pregnant and I feel like I'm being selfish by eating so poorly Confused

Honestly, same. Just had 4 potato waffles smothered in butter and cheese. All I can eat right now is so unhealthy, I have zero desire for my 5 a day (didn't before pregnancy but definitely not now!)

I know it's easier said than done but try not to feel guilty. Take your folic acid and drinks lots of water, and eat what you want! I'm 7 weeks, let's enjoy this time and indulge ourselves. I'd be pissed if I got horrendous morning sickness and looked back to see id deprived myself of what I wanted when I felt good!

Congratulations 👏👏👏 eat the food, enjoy every bite!!

Do try and cut out the processed fast food as some suspect additives in them. But yeah don't worry too much about it being overly healthy. Just make sure you are taking your vits and listen to your body. Maybe just try and pick the lesser of two evils - chips and crisps etc are better than McDonald's and KFC.
I lost my appetite with my first preg couldn't really eat. I'm about 8 weeks now and I'm getting some cravings and aversions. Sometimes il get halfway through something then feel sick and can't finish it.
Maybe just make the most of having an appetite as there is a chance over the next few weeks the appetite will drop &/or you may have nausea so just fill your boots while you can x

I love this, I'm so glad someone's in the same boat! Honestly the waffles sound amazing!

100% I need to be better with my folic acid but drinking loads of water!

Thank you and congratulations to you too! So excited to meet baby in Nov 🥰

I'm nauseous at awkward times of the day, honestly it's mostly during the morning when I wake up and immediately im starving but im too tired to cook so this is where I just order McDonald's breakfast, I definitely need to cut out the processed stuff, im going to try to be a bit better with it but deffo I will try to enjoy food while I can

Totally normal I'd say. Crappy carb foods is what got me through the first trimester.
Currently in my third trimester now and don't have much of an appetite.
Eat what you want to get you through, that feeling doesn't last forever Smile

Prenatalnutritionist on Instagram has some great ideas for eating with nausea.

I'd recommend smoothies like avocado, almond butter, oats and banana which are easy to drink slowly.

Oats generally I found was great to settle the stomach a bit.

Or wholemeal toasted bread with fish fingers and ketchup - yum.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 18/04/2023 07:03

What about oatcakes or yoghurt in bed before you get up or some kind of cracker with spread on? It's still cook free but not processed. I second smoothies too x

I had hyperemesis with DD1 and only things I could stomach for the first 20 weeks were "dry" McDonalds offerings like chicken nuggets and hash browns. Daughter is fine and didn't come out battered. Just eat what you can manage.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 18/04/2023 08:14

@OnMyJourney I am 8 + 2 today as well. I also really want to eat beige food mainly toast, pasta and pom bear crisps.

I have been making fruit smoothies with frozen fruit and they are sort of like a fruity slush and have enjoyed them. I did try having a salad yesterday and I actually did enjoy that as well particularly the pickled onions.

Im finding I feel more sick in the evenings x

I do think eat what you can, but those ultra processed foods are so awful for you. Can you have carbs in healthier forms like toast, cereal, crisps. If you like veg, I always have a pot of cut up raw veg with a dip (carrot, celery, cucumber, peppers) to eat at work. If you wake up starving surely it’s quicker to make yourself something than wait for a delivery? Can you prepare something the night before and leave it in fridge.
