TTC first cycle after a D&C

Hi ladies,

I am just back on here looking for some answers of peoples experiences.

I had my period return yesterday 16/04 which is exactly 5 weeks to the day after my D&C.

I will now start tracking ovulation again and myself and my partner will now start trying again.

Just looking for peoples personal experiences on how long it took to get pregnant again after a D&C or if you managed to catch on the first cycle? I am praying I can.

Thank you!

It took me 2.5 years after my first D&C and 2 cycles after my second.

Moosh18 · 17/04/2023 14:31

With my first it took 18 months, that was post "natural" MC, our second, currently pregnant with it took 2/3 cycles after a D&C at 12 weeks

I'm so sorry for your loss and wish you all the best! ❤️

Dgu27 · 17/04/2023 14:32

Good luck with everything… I had a d&c 4th Nov, two cycles and fell pregnant again and in January 😀Fingers crossed for you

Hi @Pollywoddles thank you for replying! Were you actively trying both of these times from your first cycle after miscarriage?

Hi @Moosh18 thank you for replying :) I really hope I can conceive again quickly, I am literally praying for our rainbow baby! My D&C was at 9.5 weeks. I hope you don't mind me asking but did you ovulate around your normal time after your D&C or did it change things for you? x

@Dgu27 Congratulations on your new pregnancy, hope all is going well for you!

Were you tracking your ovulation during those two cycles and did your ovulation resume as normal after the D&C?

So sorry to hear about your MC OP.
Apparently you're more fertile in the 3 months after a MC and if you read similar threads here, lots of ladies fall pregnant during this time.

It took me 15 months (actively trying, age 32, no known issues) after my MC. I have to admit, I was really despairing towards the end. I wish now I'd focused less on the "but I should be pregnant by now" and just lived life more in the moment.

Moosh18 · 17/04/2023 14:58

@lmp69 my cycles have always been long, I normally ovulate around CD24 and I did after my MC as what I would class as normal for me! It was actually a lot more regular after a dc then after my natural MC previously, it took 3 months for my period to return after that! I started taking conceive plus ovulation support and conceive plus fertility support (both vitamins) and I don't know if they had anything to do it but we fell pregnant in September last year after only a few cycles, whereas ttc my DD took us years in total xx

lmp69 · 17/04/2023 15:11

@Got2besoon congratulations on your pregnancy and good to hear you got there in the end!

I have read this too about being more fertile in the 3 months after and I am really hoping so!

thank you @lmp69 … I’m over 40 and ten years since my last baby so I’m a nervous wreck! I seemed to be lucky and ovulated as normal 😀 i did carry on whole time taking my pregnacare plus vitamins - not sure if that helped but wanted to try everything to hurry it along!

Yes, actively trying, was just dying to be pregnant again.

@Pollywoddles I feel exactly the same! Feel like it is taking over my life :( I am just so desperate.

I had erpc (I think it’s essentially d&c) in late May 2022, then conceived again in mid August, and I have just had my little boy.

I tracked my ovulation with opk and bbt. The bbt was really good to confirm I had ovulated. We did casually try dtd the first cycle directly after the surgery but I don’t think my body was ready (weird stringy cm and very light period) so I didn’t start the opk until the second month.

Sorry for your loss, good luck with ttc and I hope you get your positive and successful pregnancy soon.

It’s hard to take positives from the situation but it’s a huge plus that you actually can conceive. Just keep doing what you’re doing and it’ll happen. How long were you trying before?

EMcG3 · 18/04/2023 07:20

I had D&C in late October and am now pregnant. Caught a mid-Jan cycle. I think my timeline is one of the shortest you could have; I come from a family of women who get pregnant easily. Maybe a December cycle could have worked, DH and I were not in the same place at the critical time. My first cycle was, in retrospect, not viable, though I was hopeful at the time.

I really, really feel your post - I also wanted to pregnant again and there was nothing to do but wait. Wishing you the best.

@Pollywoddles We literally only tried once last time and we caught first time! Whilst I appreciate that this is extremely lucky and it doesn't happen with a lot of people, I now feel like I am going to expect it to happen quickly again and if I don't I will start to worry and panic.
I know I don't need to panic if it doesn't happen straight away and that is totally normal, but I feel like I have set my expectation now and if it doesn't happen I will worry as I am a natural worrier anyway and cannot help it 😞

@EMcG3 Congratulations on your new pregnancy!

We did have sex between our D&C and my first period but we were not tracking obviously because we couldn't and did not know where we were! However was not hopeful with this anyway as I didn't think anything would come of it but when my first period turned up on Sunday I thought now we can start trying properly again!

I hope and pray it can happen this cycle, another reason for this being the timings when we wish to have our baby and timings of things during this year (when we could announce etc). However I do also understand it probably will not happen straight away and it could take a while. I want nothing more than to be pregnant again, I wish there was something I could do about it! (Other than take pregnancy vitamins to help conceive etc, which I am doing).
