Anxious it's ectopic - anyone pregnant had this pain?

6+4 and I have intermittent sharp pains in my lower right abdo/groin when moving. Like a stitch. It started two days ago and hasn't gone away. Been on the sofa most of the day and when I move sometimes I can feel it. I'm also on cyclogest. It kinda feels like a cyst.

I'm worried it's ectopic but EPU won't scan me this weekend because I don't have any other symptoms, and someone will call me during the week to book me for a scan (?)
They did a vaginal exam (?) and asked me if I had shoulder tip pain or a fever. Said I would be in agony if it was ectopic and during the exam I would have winced when they touched my cervix, and I didn't. They didn't even take bloods. They just reassured me a lot??

I don't know whether to worry or not. Pain isn't severe but I didn't get this one sided sharp pain in my first pregnancy.

I'd love some reassurance to get me through the next few days! TIA

Everyone is different.

I had it with my first. Always on my right. Turns out I had a cyst (that shrunk away itself by 2nd trimester)

It was a sharp pain that twinged every so often, and was worse if I'd been on my feet long.

I was advised to seek help if the pain/discomfort was constant or in consistent waves/patterns, and I had shoulder pain.

Have you googled round ligament pain?

Although maybe if you are only 6 weeks then perhaps thats too early for that? Hope all goes ok

I also had a cyst, it had ruptured and the pain was unbelievable. I went in on a Friday and wasn’t scanned until the Monday as there was no one available to do it over the weekend. Even after the scan and them spotting a ‘mass’ (very early pregnancy) in my womb, they told me it was an ectopic pregnancy and tried to give me an injection that would stop the babies cells multiplying (obviously to kill her). If it wasn’t for one of the nurses who said I could refuse the injection and insist on a laparoscopy to check then my now 12yo daughter would be dead. There’s always hope.

I didn't have it all morning and I just started getting it again after lifting my 10 month old, now it won't go! It's SO sharp and it feels just where my ovary is. So hard not to get anxious.

Can a cyst cause this kind of pain??

@Aylestone thanks God for that nurse!!!

That is odd advice. You wouldn't be in agony necessarily until ruptured, or even then. Depends where it is. I would ring 111.

I’ve had an eptopic and did nearly die

I didn’t know I was pregnant and did have pain in my pelvis and was totally knackered but I’d also been bleeding heavily for 3ish days (hence not thinking I was pregnant) and was starting to feel like passing out, seriously nearly blacking out in the middle of a city. I went to a doctor who said “it’s probably an STD. Has your husband been cheating on you?” No shit that actually happened.

The next day I went to the ‘STD’ clinic barely able to walk / stay conscious. And an incredible female doctor saved my life.

My only help for this thread is that doctors sometimes miss it.

good luck

Over Easter weekend I had similar. Pain over the right hand side, intermittent but bad enough to wake me up. Seen by doctor, they did an exam including palpation of my abdomen. Decided since no shoulder pain and tolerated the exam that it wasn't emergency but got an EPAU appointment for 2 days later. They did say if pain got worse, started bleeding a lot or pain in shoulder to go straight to A&E though. Scan showed all fine!

@FlyingHighFlyingLow that's exactly what happened to me. How long did you have the pain for? Mines day 3 of being intermittent now.

I still have it over a week later. The scan couldn't find any cause 🤷‍♀️ I also had bleeding, likely from cervical ectropion.

LiliLil · 16/04/2023 19:36

I had this with my daughter, and interestingly was on cyclogest too.

Give them a call if your worried, but chances are everything is fine.

I had an ectopic and had a sharp stabbing pain where my ectopic was..kind of like being pierced with a needle off and on, I also had no strong pregnancy symptom, shoulder pain and bleeding.
I find it bizarre they won't scan you internally as an ectopic can be really serious. Mine was found at 6 weeks

Lillybobs86 · 16/04/2023 23:26

I had an Ectopic last year I didn't wince when examined and I didn't have shoulder tip pain or fever .. I just don't think they know much in A&E about the start of Ectopics.
Mine started off with like labour pains and cramps on one side and down my leg.
Even then they still couldn't diagnose and took them 8 days following that to confirm 🤦🏽‍♀️
I would call EPU first thing in the morning and demand a scan and bloods.

I am pregnant again now which isn't an Ectopic thankfully (confirmed by scan) and I do get pain in my ovary which does get quite painful - I did speak to the nurse about it and said it could be corpus luteum which I heard can give the same sharp pain.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 16/04/2023 23:45

Shoulder tip pain and tender (excited)cervix usually happens once rupture has happened and internal bleeding is present. Other symptoms of an ectopic are pain/weird sensation when passing urine or having a bowel movement, Pain in rectum, nausea, one sided pain which isn't necessarily very painful.

I had a dull ache deep in my right hip and what felt like severe to mild ovulation twinges intermittently. I also had rectal pain, tender cervix and pregnancy symptoms fluctuating. Bleeding which was not like typical mc or period bleeding. It was tinner and ranged in colour from dark red to peach and I also had clots.

May be best to give your gp a call in the morning to see if they can refer you to the epu for a scan.

Also, please have a look at the Tommy's website. There's loads of info available and you can chat or email a midwife for advice.

Sorry this is happening to you. Fingers crossed all will be well x
