Enhanced maternity pay

Hi everyone, my husband and I have started TTC however I’m a bit concerned with my maternity pay.

I’m very lucky that my employer will pay enhanced maternity pay if I’ve been working there for 2 years by the time I reach 15 weeks before my EWC. I reach two years employment mid October this year.

I had worked out dates and believed we could start trying in this cycle however hubs and I were chatting and realised I’d calculated dates from when my next period is due instead of when my last period started. This means if I fall pregnant in this cycle I’d be due around 11 January and would therefore hit 15 weeks before EWC about 2 weeks before my 2 year work anniversary😣😣

Do you think I’d be in a position to either a) get midwife/gp to change to date on the form I have to submit to my employer or b) my employer may consider giving me the enhanced pay anyway? I regularly get good feedback and I know they respect and appreciate me as an employee.

Also I know it’s early days and I may not even fall pregnant this cycle, in which case I have nothing to worry about as any future cycles will fall within the correct parameters of my contract, but worrying a little that we’ve started TTC too early and I now won’t get the extra money we need to get by!

Sorry that’s a bit of an essay, anxiety!!! TIA xx

Hard no on A. No one here can tell you on B, but wouldn’t happen anywhere I’ve worked.

As PP said, the medical staff won't forge the legal documents for you.

In my experience it would be unusual for a maternity policy to be adapted for an employee - what's the point in having the rule in place?

And I say this as someone who managed to time DD2 within 2 weeks of the deadline for enhanced pay.

A would be a no go.
B really depends on your company - my friend was in this situation and it was offered to her, but she was told not to publicise it.

Honestly for the sake of 1 month and the difference it would make money wise why not just pause for the month?

A midwife would not do A not sure on B!
I have strange cycles can go from 28 days to 44 days so with both my DS's I was put 3 weeks ahead but the scans then adjusted that.

Thanks all for such quick replies! I did think A would be unlikely, but thought I’d see!

will just have to wait and see if I fall pregnant this cycle, and if so deal with the outcome at work! Thanks again ☺️

A = no. Please don’t even ask that of the medical staff.

B = nobody here can tell you, really depends on your employers.

Absolutely this. Wouldn't A be classed as financial fraud, too?

Scottishskifun · 15/04/2023 09:33

I get that you have started this month but basically stop!

Ahwhu22 · 15/04/2023 09:34

Yep we will be putting a hold on for now! There is a small chance I could already be pregnant so will have to wait and see. Thanks for your reply!
