Using 20 week NHS anomaly scan measurements and gender prediction

Hello dears,

Just curious whether boys measure different to girls and if so, whether 20 week scan measurements can predict the sex of baby. DH didnt want to know but curiousity is killing me 🤪. Our measurements at 20 wks 3 days.
Bpd 49.6mm
Hc 178.1mm
Ac 146.4mm
Fl 35.2mm
Efw 352g

Kindly, would those mothers who know the gender please share measurements from their 20 week scan and the sex of their dear baby. Just want to see if their is a visible trend with measurements and gender.
Thank you in advance and i eagerly await your responses. 🥰

Did they not offer to tell you the sex at the scan?

bunnyrabbitsandbutterflies · 15/04/2023 09:21

You'd have to compare to babies of the exact same gestation. That'd be impossible as scans are not 100% accurate.
Regardless of sex don't they all grow at different rates anyway?

charliegirl86 · 15/04/2023 09:26

i really don't think size has any bearing on the sex. Even a day can make a difference to the size so if you were 20 weeks + 3 days you'd need to only be comparing to others at 20+3. But as I say I don't think size is indicative of sex anyway.

Have you tried using your 12 weeks scan photo for the nub theory. That will be more accurate than this

PickledScrump · 15/04/2023 10:15

the sex has no relation to size. Babies grow at different rates. You’d be better off using your 12 week scan for nub theory, if you have a decent picture it’s quite reliable. Or book a scan to find out.

Thank you for your replies, much appreciated.
Dh spoke about not finding out gender this time around and i thought why not, what a wonderful suprise it would be for us to not find out. I did not expect the sudden suspense to start killing me lol.

Yeah, seems fairly obvious now that you have all mentioned it that all babies grow at different rates. My curious nature is in overdrive and as such can sometimes spiral out of control 😃.
I'll attach the 12 week scan for those experienced eagle-eyed mumsnetters to give a prediction and hopefully keep my mind entertained whilst waiting. ❤️

Forgot to add early scan pic, Foggy brain🤪
First image at 12 weeks scan for the nub theory
Second image at 20 weeks for possible skull theory
I know these are just theories but maybe there is something to them, if anything they will keep my mind occupied through the waiting.
Give me your predictions lovelies ❤️

....Any other theories to guess gender Or any guess using nub theory or skull theory.

Thank you for those who have replied thus far.

It was only after the anomaly scan had passed me by that i suddenly had the uncontrollable urge to know.
This is probably our last attempt and as such i choose to accept dh's suggestion to leave it a suprise. We have 2 sons already so a girl would make a nice addition 🥰. DH doesnt mind either way.
So this is me trying to keep my mind occupied whilst getting through the 4 month wait. I could yet cave but for dh's sake i will try to last. He generally lets me have my way so this was my compromise. In the mean time no harm in having some guesses and seeing whether predictions are based on reasoning or more than just a 50/50 guess.
arghhhhh 🤪🤪

I’m in the same boat as you! Team yellow but also so interested to know the gender 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s so hard! My babes measurement’s are similar to yours. I’ve done some googling and I think each baby is different so is hard to tell! I always thought girls were smaller but looking at a few different posts on this it’s very individual! Xx
