Caffeine when trying to conceive

Hello, I’ve experienced several miscarriages now and have no issues with me or my husband. I was wondering about caffeine, I have cut down to 2 cups of tea a day. Should I cut out all together when TTC. Anyone’s experience would be good to know

I’m really sorry about your miscarriages OP 💐

That sounds like a very small amount of caffeine to me, and I would be surprised if 2 cups of tea makes a difference to your risk of miscarriage. But if it would make a difference to your level of worry then it’s worth a try- when I was pregnant I tended to drink the decaf Yorkshire tea which I think is good!

wishing you the best in TTC!

Hi, I changed to very restricted decaf coffee, down to 2 cups a day while ttc.
Also cut out alcohol and followed a low fat low calorie diet.
I always seemed to conceive when loosing weight.

To me, after many many miscarriages, I felt that I needed to do everything I could to not cause them.
This obviously is bay shit bonkers as nothing I did caused my losses but in my desperate mind, this is what I needed to do.
Good luck, I think that if it’s going to happen then it’s going to happen no matter what.

Can you make one of them decaf? I find it unlikely that tea has done it, but you never know.

Thanks everyone. I think it’s more about me feeling I’m doing everything I can to help a successful outcome

I swapped to decaf during ttc, it just made me feel better to do it really and it tasted the same to me!

I cut out caffeine entirely while TTC (unless you count chocolate!). I don’t know whether it made a different but I’m 20 weeks now!

@JJ456 thanks for your response. How long did it take you to conceive?

I didn’t cut out caffeine when ttc but did cut it down to less than 200mg which is recommended for when you’re pregnant. I also cut out alcohol completely. I basically ate and drank like I was already pregnant. My caffeine was only from Diet Coke and chocolate but it’s still caffeine. I’m not a big alcohol drinker anyway unless I go out and I rarely go out drinking these days so it wasn’t a difficult thing to cut out. I’m 21 weeks pregnant now but I did have 2 miscarriages before this pregnancy and didn’t do anything differently so don’t think it made a massive difference but I just wanted to do what I could.

@allgoodthings84 thanks. I don’t drink fizzy drinks but am still having 2 teas. I am going to cut out chocolate or convert to dark chocolate and cut out all caffeinated drinks. Like I said I think it will make me feel like I’m doing all I can for a successful outcome.

@allgoodthings84 i cut out coffee a year or so ago and don’t miss it at all now! I cut out alcohol a year ago and I no longer miss that either

I could be wrong but I think it's dark chocolate that has caffeine in it...worth looking into as usually dark chocolate is seen as healthier.
I didn't cut my coffee out completely whilst ttc but only had max 1 instant coffee per day and tried to avoid costa coffees (which I love!)
I'm 5+2 now and haven't had any coffee since I found out, mostly because it doesn't appeal to me at all just now 🤢
