Hi all, FTM here with a baby due in late Aug. We've got a Clair de Lune moses basket with stand, and a cot bed from Freecycle. The plan is to let the baby sleep in the moses basket for the first few months, before moving him to the cot bed. I'm about to buy the moses basket mattress with protector. Question now is how many do I need? Will one mattress plus two protectors be enough? Or two mattresses just in case? Thanks a lot!

Just the one mattress!

And expect the Moses basket to be outgrown by 6-8 weeks.

Yes 1 mattress

One mattress is fine if you have a mattress protector on it. You could get two protectors to be on the safe side and a few sheets.

I’d buy the one. If it gets manky you can always buy another down the line. We had to replace my first borns but my second born didn’t like being put down so barely used.

Neither of my babies would countenance sleeping in the moses basket, despite what we had planned for them, so I'd say just get one if each to start.

Just the one.

We used pillowcases as sheets for the Moses basket, the mattress fits perfectly inside a pillowcase then just securely tuck in any extra underneath. Easy to change in the middle of the night if you need to and a fraction of the cost of Moses basket sized sheets.

One mattress, one protector and two sheets. My baby is still in hers at nearly 6 months!!

One Moses basket, two sheets. My DD has just moved out of her Moses basket and she's 7 months, so you might get a fair bit of use out of it.

Thank you all for the lovely comments! I'll get one mattress with protector to start with then, and will probably get some sheets from elsewhere as the branded ones are quite expensive!

Don't spend a fortune, neither of mine would sleep in the basket. My
Midwife said it was common for newborns to refuse to sleep in one. Paid £125.00 for mine and sold it un-used for £20.00 on FB!

Make sure mattress protector is waterproof and you'll be fine
