aaah and on valentine's day too
is is really a disaster or just a shock? you're still a spring chicken at 37.... how old are the dcs?

gigglewitch · 14/02/2008 21:21

Congratulations!! 37 isn't old (course not - i'm 37 too)
my mum had me at 36+half, my bro and sis were 13 & 15 when i arrived. I have a fantastic relationship with all of them, esp my mum. She reckons she had another lease of life when i was born (but methinks she'd have needed it)
Enjoy your honeymoon baby, it is a very special thing. DS1 is our honeymoon baby too. AAwwwwww!

of course you can! You have three older kids who can help, this will make it easier, you can concentrate more on this one as you won't have other toddlers to deal with...

you will be so much more relaxed and will enjoy parenthood so much more! the joy will be more intense!

that's my experience, anyway!

Rhubarb · 14/02/2008 23:22

Congrats! Nothing like a new baby to make you feel young again!

Enjoy! You'll be so much more relaxed this time round and you've got a ready troop of willing babysitters there too.

babycarrier · 15/02/2008 21:10

im 37 but 38 in couple weeks and having my 6th child .
so you never too old it seems

RGPargy · 15/02/2008 21:17

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I've just turned 40 and my DD is 10 weeks old. It's fantastic and so much easier than DS, who is now 17!!!

You'll enjoy it and it'll be wonderful!

iuseantiageingstuff · 16/02/2008 21:16

Thankyou

I guess its just the shock, we are both happy but unsure about how our children will react

They may be a bit surprised but I'm quite sure they will be very excited too and love the baby to bits! My dd1 was 9 when dd3 was born last year (other dd wa 6) - they adore her and have such fun with her - and having the extra hands around is great!

You maybe don't need to emphaise the homeymoon baby aspect - they are well old enough to be utterly embarassed by that!

Congratulations and Good Luck!

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 16/02/2008 21:34

i am only 29, but gave birth to ds2 in sept. my oldest is 10, and the girls are 7 and 6. my 10 year old son adores his baby brother, and helps so much.

Kindersurpise · 16/02/2008 21:38

Congratulations!

My friend had a baby last year, she is 38 this year and has a DD 18yo and DS 15yo. The baby was quite a shock but they are so happy and the older children are crazy about their little brother.

The good thing about a big gap is that you really have time to spend with your baby.

debinaustria · 16/02/2008 22:24

Congratulations - a honeymoon baby

I'm 39 and pregnant with #3,my 2 will be 6 and 8 when baby arrives so not such a gap as yours, but they are so excited.

Let us know what they say

chipmonkey · 16/02/2008 23:04

I'm 39 with 3 older kids and I did it on purpose!!!!

bubblepop · 16/02/2008 23:49

congratulations! you can do it! what is it they say; the first child gets cotton wool and boiled water;the second child gets baby wipes, the third child gets the dish cloth and the fourth....well the dog licks it!!

you'll be fine..ive got four, my youngest is 2ys and im 39(almost).my eldest is 11yrs. its just like riding a bike.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 17/02/2008 00:02

congrats you can do it!

discoverlife · 17/02/2008 00:08

Wait till you get the 'OH MY GOD, that means YOU HAD SEX!!!!!!' from the older children.

Im 44 with an eldest ones at 22 and 20 and the youngest at 10. The youngest is Dyspraxic and even with that extra 'burden' I have found him to be the easiest child. Mind you it could be because he's a Taurus just like me (was born on my birthday) and we are in tune. But I think it is more to do with being much more mature and laid back than with the first 2.

chipmonkey · 17/02/2008 00:13

bubblepop!

WendyWeber · 17/02/2008 00:13

I had DS2 when my older ones were 11, 8 and 5 - a bit younger than yours, and a smaller gap, but honestly, having another baby with big brothers and sisters around is brill, and such a doddle

vInTaGeVioLeT · 17/02/2008 00:27

i have dd[13yrs] and ds[3yrs] - i'm 38 and would LOVELOVELOVE another baby - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by the way i wouldn't expect a lot of help from your dc!!! my dd adores her brother it's great to have a big gap i'm a much happier older mum than i was a young one.

jan36 · 17/02/2008 13:34

Have just read your message and am in a similar boat. I thought we'd stopped at 3 boys - 6, 4 and 1 but have just discovered that No. 4 is on the way. Bit of a shock at 40 - maths let me down again just like our first. Luckily dh is thrilled.

aGalChangedHerName · 17/02/2008 13:42

Congrats!!!

It will be great honestly.

I have ds1 who is 16.5 , ds2 who is 112.5 , dd1 who is 3.5 and dd2 who is 1.5.

Ds1 babysat for the 1st time on Valentines night to let me and their dad go out for a romantic meal.

There are benifits to havong an age gap
