Expecting twins - what size of maternity clothes to buy?

Hi all,

First timer here and expecting twins! I'm just coming up to 10 weeks and already showing (probably a partial food baby tbh as eating is the only thing stopping the nausea!!!) Question I have is - should I buy maternity clothes in my usual size or go a size or two bigger as it's twins? Any advice would be much appreciated! Xx

Hi, I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant with twins. I have already gone up 2 sizes already so I would go 2 sizes at first or you might end up buying several times throughout x

Having twins doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get bigger than with a singleton pregnancy. I didn’t get very big at all! It’s completely unpredictable. Best to buy as you go really.

Maternity clothes are massive. I just bought my usual size and didn't actually buy that many. I used bump bands and long line vests so I could wear my normal clothes. As I pregnant in the summer I had a couple of pairs of denim shorts that were under bump ones and again long line vests.

Buy as you go.

It’s hard to say really, it’s difficult if you size up because it can just make things bigger where you don’t need them to be!
I disagree with poster who said maternity clothes are massive, it must depend on your body as I found them ridiculously small and I only had one big baby. Measured 5/6 weeks bigger than no of weeks though so I don’t think that helped.
I’d look for things with plenty of extra length, stretch and flowy materials.

Thanks SO much everyone - really appreciate the advice!

@Loui87 I'm definitely already pushing the boundaries of my existing clothes sizes so much so that I've popped a chunk of my wardrobe in the loft for 'sometime in the future' :)

@FictionalCharacter It's so unpredictable! Definitely think buy as I go is the way - decided second hand is probably my best bet as who knows how long I'll need them for.

@cocksstrideintheevening a summer pregnancy does fill me with concern as I am a pretty hot person anyway so combined with 2 other bodies, I'll be a sweaty mess!

@HippeePrincess Some people are blessed with small tidy bumps but I suspect I will not fall into that camp! My mum was huge with me and my brother - in fact she said she resurrected some of her old 70s kaftans so maybe I should do the same!
