Bleeding at 5 weeks?

Babbsy94 · 12/04/2023 17:53

I tested positive for pregnancy on Monday as I was 3 days past my period. Tuesday evening I noticed a very small amount of brown discharge and a slight tinge of brown when I wipe. I had a miscarriage last December at 7 weeks and it started very similarly so I'm just after anyone else's advice or happy endings. I have contacted my GP who assured me it could be implantation bleeding and I have an early scan booked for Monday morning but I'm overthinking and panicking as I thought a recurrent miscarriage would be such a rarity 😓

I have a 4 year old currently and sailed through that pregnancy with no issues which is why I can't understand why I'm having such trouble after trying again..

Sorry to hear this, it must be a worry. I had exactly the same thing at five weeks with my first born. It was as you say, implantation bleeding. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome for you

Thankyou, I'm hoping that's the case but there's definitely a few drops more than earlier. Do you mind me asking how heavy your bleed was and how long it lasted?

I had bright red bleeding at 9 weeks, I was convinced I was losing it. I had a scan, and everything was fine. Brown is old blood so could well be from implantation. It’s always a worry though

@Babbsy94 it wasn’t a huge bleed, lots of spotting but as it was my first I was worried. I was really lucky, this was 11 years ago. I got whizzed through A&E, my dh thinks it’s because the initial doctor who saw us was pregnant herself! Both my mum and my MIL did tell me to slow down after that as I was still acting like pre-pregnancy and working hard and rushing from thing to thing. They were right, it’s important to rest. Hope you’re ok.

It is...I know bleeding in the first trimester can be common but I'm just expecting the worst. Glad your bleeding turned out to be okay though!

@Babbsy94 thanks and I now have a nearly 11 year daughter. Fingers firmly crossed for you and that in time you can reassure someone else xx

Hi! I may be wrong but from what I have heard brown blood /brown discharge is old blood so not as concerning as bright red? It does look more like implantation bleeding expecially as your so early but it's good your going to have a scan.

With my first pregnancy at 6 and a half weeks I had bright red heavy bleeding literally like a period, had a scan 2 days later and was still spotting red then brown at this point, was so worried but I had a scan and baby was fine and had a heart beat, that little baby is now a healthy happy 7 year old and they never found the cause of the bleeding either ( I actually went on to have another bleed again at 34 weeks)
I know it won't help much as no matter what you read or get told it's always so worrying and the waiting is awful but I hope it helps a little knowing other people have had similar and it's all been OK!! Xx

My first miscarriage started with brown spotting at 5wks. My second MC had absolutely no sign until it was picked up on a scan at 8wks. Third pregnancy, bright red bleeding then brown spotting from 6-9wks, currently 37wks and the rest of the pregnancy (so far) has been uneventful. My GP also told me she had spotting in all her successful pregnancies and none of her MCs. Which is all to say it's really difficult to know what bleeding means. It's just a waiting game. Fingers crossed for you. ❤️

Thankyou everyone, I've woken up today and the bleeding seems a bit heavier but probably just enough to wear a panty liner. It unfortunately seems to be getting more red in colour but as I'm so early they told me to just wait a few days until my scan and they can get a better idea of what's going on.

Nice to hear some successfull outcomes of bleeds in early pregnancy.. I will let you all know what happens Monday but I'm trying to accept its probably worst case scenario so as not to get my hopes up.

Can I ask what happened please

I actually had a chemical pregnancy, unfortunately had my loss at 4 weeks 6 days going on the date of my last period.. it wasn't meant to be, but that's not to say all spotting ends up that way so don't lose hope if you're going through the same X

Hi , new to mumsnet so hoping im
posting this in the right place. We had positive pregnancy tests with faint lines on friday and then positive clearblue digital 1-2 weeks. However today i got a small bit of cramping in the morning, some pinkish when wiping. On both pads its only been an inch worth of blood on each across 3-4 hours but twice when wiping its been a normal period wipe, other times its just spots of red blood.

epu said to wait 72 hours but given that im 4/5 weeks its really common.

hardest thing is knowing how heavy is too heavy? And when to accept it didnt work this month- this is only my 2nd cycle trying but so many possibilities of symptoms!

Babbsy94 · 16/08/2023 18:08

Hi! Oh so sorry to hear this, It could very much be implantation bleeding as you're so early it would line up 🤞🏻 for me personally it definitely got heavier and bright red within 24 hours or so.

But as you mentioned you're new to mumsnet it would probably be worth you copying and pasting this onto your own new post. As this is an old thread so you won't get many replies. Best of luck to you though xx
