Was your pregnancy unplanned and you had a healthy baby?

My friend is 5 weeks pregnant and just found out. It wasn't planned but she's happy to keep the baby.

All of a sudden, complete panic because baby wasn't planned and no folic acid / vit F etc was taken before.

I tried to reassure her that many pregnancies are unplanned and healthy babies are born.

Anyone on here who can confirm this personally?

My first I took all the vitamins beforehand but then for the first 6 months I threw them all back up and totally gave up with them after that. Healthy baby.

My last one I didn't take any (busy life etc) until about 4 months along. Healthy baby.

Healthy, active lifestyle and diet is key. Vitamins supplement this.

Best wishes to your friend.

Yes, eldest was a surprise. No vitamins etc (and not so healthy youthful lifestyle!) for the first couple of months, had a healthy baby who is now a healthy pre-teen.

I didn't start taking vitamins until around 5-6 weeks with each pregnancy because I didn't know I was pregnant until then. I have two healthy children and another baby on the way

Unplanned, wasn't taking any. Took them when I found out at about 5 weeks but they made me so sick I stopped. Perfectly healthy baby.

My friend got pregnant by drinking on the pill, she had a very healthy baby and still fine now. Her second which was very much planned has many allergies, he's healthy but a completely different child to her first.

Another friend didn't know she was pregnant till labour and gave birth to a healthy baby also, the baby was full term too.

Not saying you shouldn't take vitamins, I took everything you're meant to but took a year to conceive but I'd tell her not to stress, she can't change the past.

I was smoking and out drinking for ages when pregnant with DD cos I didn't know I was pregnant. No folic acid for ages either. Never took vitamin D with either her or her brother, even when I knew I was pregnant...didn't know that was a recommendation until you put it on here tbh. She's 16 and healthy as anything and so is he (he's 10)

Hubblebubble · 10/04/2023 22:14

I think folic acid is the most important one. To the extent that I think everyone's bread is already enriched with it.

I didn't know I was pregnant with my eldest till I was 12 weeks so no folic acid/ vitamins, he's nearly 12 and the healthiest child I know, doesn't even get so much as a cold.

Surprise baby at 40. She is perfectly fine. I started with prenatal vitamins as soon as I found out I was pregnant.
Good luck to your friend OP!

SammyScrounge · 11/04/2023 01:44

She'll be fine! She was healthy before she got pregnant and the baby will come to.no harm.
My last baby was a surprise event but I love being pregnant so that was OK. It was a trouble free pregnancy except at the end they were ready for trouble because he was a big baby and I'm quite small, but no worries as it turned out. First contraction was about 7 o'clock in the evening. He was born just after 8, a fit healthy boy in spite of not having all the vitamins and stuff for a while after conception.

Not unplanned but totally unexpected (in a good way!) It was around Christmas/ny I found out so had everything you are not meant to, my gp at the time said she did the same thing with her own pregnancy

Yes fine, I presume there is lots of people unaware they were pregnant

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/04/2023 02:40

Yup. I didn’t find out until 17 weeks and had moved continents and enjoyed many leaving “celebrations” during that time.
He was 10lb 11oz and is a very healthy, average sized, 11 year old.
