Loss of morning sickness 7/8 weeks - should I be worried?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a bit of advice/guidance. I am either just over 7 weeks or just over 8 weeks pregnant (waiting for first scan, as I have irregular periods so can’t exactly determine). Initially, my symptoms were mostly just saw boobs, the odd twinge/feeling (especially around my belly button which I had seen can be the stretching of your body etc), general tiredness but nothing major & I was finding the higher level of hormones was giving me cramps after eating bigger meals, a bit of constipation and generally just affecting my stomach. This was until last week, where I suddenly woke up with what I thought was morning sickness - it didn’t last all day and generally if I was actually sick it would be better. I identified quite quickly that it was really only acid that I was throwing up and had seen it was quite common for pregnant women to have acid reflux. Because of this, I cut out any fruity/fizzy drink (was basically just drinking water) and was avoiding spicy foods or anything that may make my stomach react. Since then, I noticed improvement and now I have none. I just find it a bit odd that I now have no sickness and essentially seems to have disappeared. I guess this could be if it was actually acid reflux, not morning sickness and I was able to get it under control but I am doing the normal thing of worrying as I have seen comments that a sudden loss of symptoms can mean miscarriage (I have had no pain or bleeding).

I still have the rest of my symptoms (but to be honest, the sore boobs is really the only symptom I have every day and the rest come and go). I was wondering if anyone has had this instance before or could maybe identify it was probably acid reflux and not morning sickness? Am I just worrying for nothing?

I wouldn't worry if the rest of your symptoms are still there, they can come and go. I had a missed miscarriage in December but all my symptoms disappeared overnight. You can always go for a private early scan if you're worried but I doubt there's anything to worry about. Pregnancy is such an anxious time isn't it!x

My symptoms came and went. My sisters pregnant atm and the same things happening to her. I felt better when I did feel sick as I felt pregnant but lack of symptoms dosent mean not pregnant x

I’m so sorry that you went through that - sending you hugs 🥺 that’s why I am worrying also, but it’s a bit difficult to tell as really other than the bit of sickness I had, my strongest symptom was the sore boobs (which I still have atm) as the rest come and go. I get some stretching twinges around my belly button which I still had for 2 days after the sickness stopped. Out of interest, what were some of your symptoms that stopped? Yes! No one warned me I’d be full of so much anxiety! X

I miscarried around 8 weeks but didn't realise/start bleeding until almost 12 weeks. Missed miscarriages aren't that common though tbh. Currently 12 weeks pregnant again so I'm second guessing everything!

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 10/04/2023 10:56

When I lost my symptoms (sickness, exhaustion, generally 'feeling pregnant' - it was my second so I knew how it felt), it turned out to be a missed miscarriage. Sorry- I don't want to worry you, but if it were me, I'd probably go for a private scan (about £85 round our way and easily accessible), just to be sure. I didn't start physically miscarrying for about three weeks after my scan, so it would have been a long wait if I hadn't gone foe one.

But if you've only lost one symptom - the nausea - that sounds like good news to me! I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for good news for you Flowers

Private scans near me are £65 (sw London) so they aren't too expensive

@thecatwiththesilveryfur Sorry to hear you went through that 🥹 that is my fear & that’s why I am worried, but I equally don’t know if I can class it as morning sickness because it would go off once I was sick/late morning and it was acid. So part of me is just thinking did I have acid reflux and have managed to get it under control a bit by cutting out acid things. I was thinking of going back to what I had been having before and seeing if it starts again cause then I know it’s actually just acid reflux.

I hope you don’t mind me asking but what other symptoms did you have that stopped? It’s hard for me cause my only prominent symptom has been the sore boobs throughout, everything else has been up and down so it’s really hard to tell whether anything else has stopped. I’ve also never felt pregnant from the beginning - I really expected to but just never did tbh!

@redyellowpinkbluegreen Ah that’s good to hear that yours came and went as well! Did you have sickness come and go? Yeah when I first found out for 2 weeks I didn’t really have any symptoms at all, so that was hard but I knew it wasn’t necessarily unusual but because I had something and now I don’t i’m just a bit worried x

Hi @meje23 , I hope you're reassured by how many people are saying their symptoms came and went! It seems really normal. For me, the early weeks of pregnancy I feel sick (though I don't actually vomit), exhausted all the time and generally under the weather - I felt something was wrong because I had started feeling perfectly normal and energetic again.

But I really hope that's not the case for you - as lots of other people are saying, this can be totally normal. Hoping for good news for you Smile

thecatsthecats · 10/04/2023 14:12

At that stage, my body seemed to pick three symptoms a day and the rest would disappear. Then it would pick a different set the next day.

Now at 11.5 weeks I still have the odd day where I think - OK, nausea is fading - only for it to come back with a vengeance.

Rachaelrachael · 10/04/2023 14:14

This happened to me around 8-9 weeks and I freaked out and went straight for a private scan. Baby was fine and I felt rubbish again a couple of days later 😀

Yellowdays · 10/04/2023 14:28

Everyone is different. For me, sickness was a good sign, in terms of carrying a pregnancy to term. Unfortunately all day! Not the same for others, though.

meje23 · 11/04/2023 09:26

Hey everyone,

Think I may have had a panic moment as I decided to add acidic drinks/food back into my diet yesterday to see if it made a difference again & woke up this morning and was sick. So definitely think it's acid reflux from the hormones and I had just managed to get it under control :)

Thanks for all the help!

I didn't have morning sickness with any of my pregnancies.

OldTinHat · 11/04/2023 09:46

Oh and they're 24 and 22 now!

TwoInABubble · 11/04/2023 10:33

I wouldn't worry with symptoms coming and going. I've had horrible nausea and sickness and I've had a missed miscarriage. My symptoms have not eased up at all in the nearly 5 weeks since little one stopped growing (scan at 8+2 measured 7+6 with no heartbeat, should be 11+5 today). Everyone's bodies react to the hormones differently.
