Bump gone at 18 weeks

18 weeks today. I know I’m probably being so silly but I’m on my honeymoon and can’t relax. First photo was taken two days ago i felt like I’d finally popped and had a bump. Now it’s almost disappeared, I can still feel my uterus but it’s definitely a lot smaller than it has been. My DH agrees it has got
smaller but doesn’t get the worry. Has anyone else experienced this? And was anyone else as small as the second picture at 18 weeks? I can’t remember exactly what I normally look like but pre pregnancy I was always quite bloated so don’t think it’s any different to normal pre pregnancy

Could the first photo maybe include some bloating from eating or anything? To me it doesn't look a massive difference to be worried about.

I think they say that first babies tend to not develop as much of a bump early on anyway because your muscles are stronger.

Photo below is my bump at 27 weeks - and he still came out at 9lbs!

Bubs has probably moved position. I had this at 30+ weeks and it was very disconcerting for a couple of days but then my bump came back again. I wouldn't have thought there was anything to worry about

Maraudingmarauders · 09/04/2023 08:38

I'd say it was probably bloat! I'm 18 weeks and my bump changes day to day and throughout the day. Sometimes I look huge and othertimes just a bit chubby.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 09/04/2023 08:41

I've been pregnant twice and never had a bump at 18 weeks! I wouldn't worry at all, it was probably more bloat than bump.

quietnightmare · 09/04/2023 08:43

Don't worry

First one is probably bloating, the baby has probably moved and your second picture was like me when I was 9 months. Everyone is different but if you are concerned then just get checked out to put your mind at ease

FangedFrisbee · 09/04/2023 08:46

The first one looks like bloating

sleepymama3 · 09/04/2023 08:52

Second pregnancy here, I started to wear my maternity jeans at 16 weeks but had to go back to normal jeans at 20 weeks as I think I just had a bloated week. 29 weeks now and going strong. Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon xx

I can remember my first bump reducing in size my I think I was further along. The baby moved into position, it was unnerving that's for sure!

If you haven't lost fluid or anything then there's nothing to worry about.

MissMaple82 · 09/04/2023 09:19

It's common. It's baby moving position, probably moved into your back. Don't worry

elm26 · 09/04/2023 09:27

I had this! I "popped" at 16 weeks and by 19, I could fit back into my jeans. I panicked and mentioned to midwife who saw me after my 20 week scan and she told me baby is still small enough to "hide" and when they change position it can alter shape and appearance of bump.

I'm now 33 weeks and there's no hiding it but some days it changes shape.

You look fab, have a lovely honeymoon!

Lhdale · 09/04/2023 09:58

Thank you everyone for your replies I feel reassured! Really need to stop worrying as it’s ruining the honeymoon and so hard on my husband who can’t do anything to stop my worry. And thank you @McAvennie for sharing your pic it’s reassuring as you’re not much bigger even though 9 weeks ahead - I think I’ve been so fooled by this insta version of pregnancy with all these women with huge bumps but it’s become clearer that they’re either much much further ahead or posing in a way which makes bump look bigger - I haven’t had many pregnant friends so I had no idea it took so long for bump to start to form!

This was me at 34 weeks, I'm sticking it out a bit because my bump was so tiny.

This was me a few days before DD was born at 7lb4oz.

You're fine OP, your baby has just moved position. Some people just naturally carry small but you're only 18 weeks so plenty of time to grow. Your bump looks like a very average 18 week bump. Enjoy your pregnancy!

babyjoeytribianni · 09/04/2023 13:10

Are you quite tall? I've noticed my taller friends were much smaller, some I couldn't even tell were pregnant at 8/9 months. I'm small and my bump was huge from about 24 weeks.

I think the difference in photos might be the way you're standing/sitting.

Mummyme87 · 09/04/2023 13:29

There is no right or wrong for bump size. And a CV angle from day to day, the baby hasn’t gone anywhere, it will change positions regularly which will change bump shape and as others have said, bloating happens alot

Lhdale · 09/04/2023 13:41

@babyjoeytribianni no im tiny 😂😂. 5 foot!
