Im currently 36 weeks pregnant and one day away from beginning my maternity leave. Im a dog groomer so on my feet all day and today whilst grooming I really seriously thought I was going into Labour. I got this horrendous pain (not lightening crotch but similar) in my pelvic area but it felt like it was inside my bits. It almost felt like as though baby was trying to stick her hand through my cervix. This was accompanied with severe lower back pain and my coccyx has been extremely painful too. When I sit down or sit on the loo her head feels like it’s pushing down so much that it hurts. This is my 3rd baby, I went over due (41 + 3 with no.1 and 41 + 5 with no.2 who was induced) I know the chances are I’ll go over with this one too but this time baby has been head down since 28 weeks and is very very low according to my midwife. My other two weren’t head down until right at the very end. I have had 3 colposcopies and loop diathermy on all occasions since my last pregnancy, im another 10 years older than I was when I was last pregnant and I have spent a lot more of this pregnancy active than I did with my older children. I never had any of this with my other two, no pains, no signs no nothing until over 40 weeks but this one feels very different. I’ve had pressure, back pains and even contractions every 4 minutes lasting around a minute for an hour the other night, they eventually stopped but they were very painful and worrying! My midwife downplays everything I tell her so I feel like I’m going crazy. I have also had this pain again tonight whilst writing this but this time it was followed by a large amount of discharge looking fluid. Am I going insane or am I possibly in the very first stages of Labour?? 🤯

Sounds like things are moving! Trust your instincts, and your body!

My second was like this. His head was so low that I could hardly walk for the last two weeks. Lots of pressure too. He was born at 39.2 and his head was misshapen because it had been engaged so long. I'm sure it's starting OP!

What with my midwife fobbing me off and being told that my MIL is going behind my back saying “I don’t know what planet she’s on but that baby’s not coming anytime soon” I keep on questioning myself. I know I never felt things like this with my other two so you’re right I do need to listen to my instincts. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m glad to hear it isn’t just me going insane 😅

Just as every child is different so is every pregnancy and the fact you were overdue for your first 2 means nothing. It sounds like this baby will be making an early entrance!
if you’ve had a large fluidy discharge then it may have been your waters breaking. Can you go and get checked out?

Emmar1989 · 04/04/2023 23:00

Thank you, I have spent a lot of the last couple of weeks doubting myself and ignoring the symptoms as I’m getting robbed off so much but it’s getting to the point where it is so painful I can’t ignore it for much longer. When I went to the toilet it looked more like part of my plug rather than waters, it wasn’t pink but more cream in colour. I have had a massive increase in discharge over the last week or so!

Honestly just to spite your mother-in-law I hope you have the baby tonight! How dare she say that about you?

Emmar1989 · 04/04/2023 23:46

The worst thing is she was saying this at my baby shower slating me infront of my family. She also said to me “don’t talk to me about working during pregnancy as we have different views” I’m 36 weeks pregnant with SPD and in pain everyday yet I’m only just finishing the day after tomorrow and that’s only because I’ve been told I have to for medical reasons. She’s awful sometimes.

I had that feeling with my second, who was a footling breech..Worth checking?

Autumn231 · 05/04/2023 07:09

I’ve been feeling similar for a couple of weeks now (37 weeks tomorrow), but no contractions just braxton hicks. I keep thinking surely it means baby will be early as I can’t imagine feeling like this for another three or more weeks… Good luck to you!

Emmar1989 · 05/04/2023 07:49

I’m having growth scans due to my last baby being small for gestational age, I was only scanned on Friday so I know she’s head down and engaging. She’s been there since 28 weeks and never moved. I’ve also had similar pains since then it just seems to be getting worse as time goes on. Thank you though! That sounds very painful!

That’s what I’ve been saying too! Part of me does think as this one has been head down for so long already surely that means she won’t be overdue. However I’ve been told that it can happen. With my first I would wake up randomly all through the night for the last couple of days before Labour began. Recently I’ve been the same with this one. I just wish I could find a medical professional who will take me seriously! My other two I had with no pain relief so it’s not like I have a low pain threshold. I really can’t understand why they won’t listen to me. Good luck to you too!

That does sound like early labour... I guess I'm your shoes od make sure I've got everything packed and ready to go and childcare in place. It doesn't sound like it'll be another month! Pop a pad on so you can keep an eye on discharge.

Emmar1989 · 05/04/2023 15:11

Spoke to my gp as got nowhere with midwife, he said by the sounds of things I’m in the latent phase of Labour. Cervix is thinning, dilating etc and what I’m feeling is a mixture of that and contractions. Almost finished work for the day, so happy that this is it and I can rest after today!

Thank you! I’ve got my bags packed and pad on monitoring, fingers crossed she hangs on in there for another week so we make it to 37 weeks!

I didn’t have the pressure you’re describing with my daughter but she was head down from 28 weeks and was born at 41+1 weeks ending in an emergency section as she had moved right at the end (no one realised) to a funny position that wasn’t possible to come out naturally. I had growth scans so they knew she was head down from 28 weeks until the end.

allgoodthings84 · 05/04/2023 15:29

Well she was still head down at the end but had turned a little so her beck and too if back was downwards so couldn’t come out

tvbed · 05/04/2023 16:59

I had different pain/ discomfort with no. 3. Started nearer my due date though. Still went overdue and was longest pregnancy (last week was awful and I didn't leave the house). Turned out baby had their hand above their head and came out with arm squashed against their face. I think this explained why I felt they were trying to claw their way out in the last couple of weeks. Still was a good labour and not assistance required.

Autumn231 · 06/04/2023 17:32

How are you getting on OP?

Emmar1989 · 07/04/2023 10:49

Hey, I’m still pregnant 😂 not like I mind she’s not “fully cooked” yet anyway. Still having the same symptoms and I’m finding I’m waking up all throughout the night because I just don’t feel right. My midwife booked me in for Monday to check me over and see where were at. I sat on the toilet lastnight and got a really weird pain that felt kind of like bone grinding on bone but in my pubic region so I’m not sure what that was. I was really busy yesterday as we had a carpet fitter in all day. I’m trying to rest but I’m nesting so not so easy! I’ll update if anything progresses. My midwife okayed me drinking raspberry leaf tea and has given me a colostrum collecting kit to start expressing. I’m abit dubious about expressing with the symptoms I’m having as I don’t want to set Labour off just yet.
