Hi, I’m 38+2, second baby, 7 years apart, due to be induced this Sunday (9th), had a sweep yesterday, midwife said I’m 2cm dilated (she also said she was putting it down as 2-4 as it was closer to that than 1-2???) baby is 4/5ths engaged, so very low down, she could feel his head easy and my waters. I lost some of my plug immediately and had back ache all evening, this morning my plug has totally come away, lots of it and I’ve had mild irregular contractions this morning, by this afternoon they were every 8 minutes, lasting around 40 seconds but really not painful and very manageable. I had an hours nap, woke up at 6pm and have had 2 contractions since that were very painful, a really bad back and dull ache in my tummy and nothing else. Anyone experienced the same and had something happen or is this all a big tease! I’m due another sweep tomorrow afternoon but I was wishfully thinking that I wouldn’t be needing that appointment earlier today.

Should add my tummy feels very, very tight and TMI I’ve had 2 easy bowel movements this morning which is very unlike me. Cramping is also really bad when I have a wee!

I had all of this this with DD2 after each sweep- had a sweep at 40 weeks, 40 +3, 40+5, 41 and baby finally came of her own accord at 41 +2. Unfortunately it doesn't always mean labour is imminent but it absolutely can mean that so fingers crossed. But just wanted to say that it is best to get some rest while you can as I drove myself mad walking miles, bouncing on my ball constantly thinking I was on the cusp of labour that I was knackered when I eventually went into labour. If you're already 2-4cm then induction should be a more straightforward process as they can easily break your waters without waiting for a pessary to ripen the cervix.
Best wishes for your birth x

Thank you all, nothing really started back up☹️ Had my sweep this afternoon and I’ve only moved to 2-3cm, cervix is long and stretchy, really unsure what this means. Think I will end up being induced although I was hoping it would happen naturally before. Never mind! Xx
