I’m pregnant with twins and hoping to start a thread for other pregnant twin mammas to join. My due date is mid November and twins are dizygotic (IVF) I’m currently 7 +6 weeks. First pregnancy.

Hi @TwinMumma2be I’m feeling ok - slight nausea on and off and a bit tired. How was your first trimester? Did you get sickness?
and congrats! How’s your bump looking? Getting big?!

@Stillhoping1990 i suffered from a lot of sickness in the first trimester but it soon calmed down and since then i have felt ok. Now im just getting more tired, feet are a bit puffy at the end of the day and its a bit uncomfortable during the night but nothing too major. The body is growing 2 humans at the end of the day! 🙂
My bump is suprisingly not that big to be honest a lot of people have commented that i dont look 6 months. But scans and check ups reassure me they are both growing fine, lots of movement and drs say it could be because i am 5ft 10 i have a longer torso. The less time i spend huge the better in my opinion!
How are you feeling about having multiples? I was very overwhelmed at the start

Stillhoping1990 · 05/04/2023 09:58

When did your morning sickness really start to kick in? I’m now week 8 and still no major sickness - but I have a feeling it will get me soon!
that’s great your babies are doing well in there!
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed- we only found out it was twins last week and it’s taking a while to sink in. I’m a first time mum, are you?
I getting worried most about the practicalities of going out and about with two babies. Also worried about getting them both into the same sleeping and eating patterns. I also get concerned about the extra risks factors. Have you been recommended a C-section?

@Stillhoping1990 my morning sickness started really early from about 6 weeks until i got past 12 weeks then it settled down i also felt extremely exhausted but that got a little better with time too. Hopefully you will be lucky enough not to experience it much 🤞

Yes im also a first time mum also, we wasn't aware we had any twins in the family so it came as a bit of a shock but it is such a blessing to be having two. I also worry about the day to day practicalities. Do you have a supportive family/friend network around you? I have a feeling they are going to come in very useful! I have been advised by mums with twins already to wake and feed them both at the same time so they go back down together (in theory) it may not work for everyone but thats something i am going to give a go so that in between i can rest too.

My Drs have said that i can aim for a vaginal birth as long as baby A is head down in position at the time but potentially a section if anything arises or they feel its not safe. Im trying to prepare myself mentally for both. I have found it a little daunting with the drs, obstetrician, midwife saying multiple pregnancys are high risk, i have Crohns disease too which i have to take immunosuppresants for therefore another added risk. I also wasn't offered asprin at 16 weeks either to help reduce the chance of pre eclampsia so if is hasn't already been mentioned i would mention it when you next see your midwife. As thats another thing we are at risk of getting. They have told me that its 'too late' to start taking it now but luckily i am not displaying any symptoms of it at the moment. They do keep a really close eye on you lots of BP and urine monitoring and extra scans. Have you had your first midwife appointment yet?

Stillhoping1990 · 05/04/2023 11:44

@TwinMumma2be it seems morning sickness is extremely common for twin mums - if I manage to swerve it, I will be lucky! It sounds silly but I also get a bit worried with lack of symptoms.
I think my mum will be around a lot to support and I’m hoping to make some mum friends in antenatal classes etc. but most of my friends do not live close by.
it is an absolute blessing to have two! I’ve always wanted to have twins and so excited albeit a bit daunted.
My first midwife appointment is in two weeks time. I will be grateful to have extra scans and close monitoring because I’m very anxious.
I wasn’t aware of the preeclampsia- thank you for the heads up!

lessening/fluctuating symptoms with twin pregnancy

Hi all!
I have a little boy who is 11 months old and found out I’m now pregnant with twins.

So I took a pregnancy test it was a super faint positive but clearly a positive, then another a day later and it was more faint then negative the next day, I thought another chemical pregnancy as I’ve had 5 miscarriages total, all of which I never had any pregnancy symptoms for and never made it past 8 weeks.

Left it and carried on, 2 weeks passed and I didn’t get my period so I took another test, very strong positive.
we were so happy and carried on, booked an early scan for when I thought I was roughly 8 weeks, the week before I was getting quite bad cramps and lower back cramps so I called the EPU and they got me in for a scan the next day (given my history of miscarriages).
Went in prepping for the worst, she said she could see a pregnancy over the tummy but wanted to do an internal scan just to check, this is when she confirmed a heartbeat, we were so relieved, and then directly after said there was another heartbeat! We were in shock! But so happy!
She also said I only looked to be 5 weeks 2 days! I was surprised as that didn’t line up with my dates at all! I thought I was roughly about 7 weeks at this point.

This seems very early to see a heartbeat and to see it over the tummy? In the past they only detected heartbeats for me at around 6-7 weeks. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Also in my appointment directly after the scan when I spoke to a nurse, I asked if everything looked normal, she said yes and checked the notes from the scan and said there was also a small subchorionic hematoma by the one baby. She didn’t seem worried about it at all and said it can be normal.
Im assuming it’s nothing to worry about if the sonographer didn’t mention it and I’ve so far had no bleeding at all?

Ive had severe morning sickness all day! Vomiting multiple times a day and all food making me feel sick! Smells bothering me so much, sore nipples not the whole breast (could be because I’m still breastfeeding?)
diarrhea right in the beginning before I knew it was twins and just intense exhaustion.
As hard as it’s been it was all very reassuring for me as like I said , I never had symptoms with any of my miscarriages, only with my son’s pregnancy.

Then about 2 days ago I started feeling better, nausea has subsided and I actually managed to eat and feeling a bit less tired. Now the nausea isn’t completely gone but it isn’t constant any more and normally out of random I gag and run to the loo and then will be fine for a few hours,
smells still really bother me.

I can’t help but stress that something has happened or maybe lost the one twin and that’s why symptoms have lessened. I also get cramps or twinges (quite sharp) quite often on and off.
I know symptoms can come and go and I still feel positive about this pregnancy but I don’t know what to expect with a twin pregnancy! It has felt so different to my first.

Some reassurance would be great and to hear from women who have possibly had a similar experience with a twin pregnancy. Just to get me through this week till I have my next scan with the hospital this Friday. The days feel so long!

Kitkat264 · 01/07/2023 10:05

Also forgot to add, I’m currently 6 weeks 3 days pregnant so it’s been about a week since the scan and my next scan is this coming Friday, so in 6 days time.
