I'm 34 weeks pg and keep waking up with cramp in my left calf, any suggestions on how to prevent it? Why does it happen in the same place each time?

It's all those lovely pregnancy hormones. Try to make sure you stretch your leg by moving your toes towards your knees, NOT by pointing your toes away. This should keep the cramp at bay and will also help stretch it out when you do get one. Don't worry, they do go away almost immediately after giving birth.

Lollypop - are you taking pregnancy supplements? May be a good idea if you are not, as cramps can often be indicative of a magnesium deficiency. HTH.

Lollypop, me too, I'm 34 weeks too, but the cramps that I get are just above my knee in the back of my leg, and I cant get rid of it by standing up like you can with calf cramp. It is absolute agony, and happens almost every time I turn over in bed. I think I've noticed it has been much worse when I haven't drunk enough water during the day though.

BANANAS! Not sure how it came up but another MB i use has had a big discussion on this and apparently cramp is a low potassium thing, and bananas have loads of it, so eat lots and it might go away!

(In fact reading this next bit (from google) makes me want to rush off and have 2 - organic - right now.)

The key thing to avoid cramps is to drink loads of water. Not great when your bladder's being crushed but there you are. Also make sure you don't get cold - warm socks on the feet, even leg-warmers!
Interesting about bananas though, I might try that. Have been prescribed quinine in the past because of persistent cramps.
