Baby Measuring 2 Weeks Behind (Early Scan)

Hi all, I had an early pregnancy scan today due to some cramping and gynaecological concerns.

The sonographer tried to do an abdomen scan but could only see the uterus and gestational sac, she moved to an internal and could see baby. She told me the baby was measuring 7w5d, despite my cycle dates being 9w5d. I’m a bit concerned since 2 weeks is quite substantial.

She mentioned baby was looking absolutely fine and had a strong healthy heartbeat and that due to the gynaecological issues, it’s more likely that my ovulation was late rather than something more insidious but I’m still very worried especially since my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. 😓

Has anybody experienced similar? If so, can you please let me know of your outcomes? Thanks in advance. 🙂

Everything is still so tiny that there are mm in it. They measured you at 7+5, you might have another scan in a week and rather than 8+5 you could measure over 9. Combine that with the issues meaning you likely ovulated late, I'd trust your doctors saying its all fine :)

It depends on how certain of your ovulation dates you are really?

If you do bbt and you have an absolutely certain ovulation pattern, then I agree that two weeks is worrying. If you have only an unclear bbt pattern, or relied on opks, or cm, or did none of these, then I wouldn't worry. It's perfectly possible to ovulate late, I've done it plenty of times.

both my children were measuring 10 weeks at my 12 week scan. This was despite me having regular cycles and I never quite worked out how the dates matched up. My ds was nearly two weeks late so it felt like I was pregnant for 10 months by the end!

@RozaBaby Hi

Have you had any scan afterwards? I'm in the same boat. Just wanted to get your update. Thanks

Hi, I wasn’t offered another reassurance scan afterwards as the sonographer said the foetus was healthy with a strong heartbeat.

I’ve just recently had my dating scan which showed the baby measuring 12w4d which was about 2 days forward from the old scan. Baby was very active with a strong heartbeat once again.

Hope this is helpful!
