Mole changes during pregnancy

Hi everyone.

I’ve noticed a mole has changed throughout pregnancy. It’s got slightly darker (it’s a darker, pinker skin colour now and it used to blend in with my skin and was just raised a little) and it’s become slightly more raised.

I’ve read it’s common in pregnancy due to hormones and pigment changes (like the line running down the belly) but I’m also worried I’ve got skin cancer. For extra info which I hope is relevant, I’ve been really anxious about my health while pregnant particularly, especially about having a terminal illness with a baby on the way. It doesn’t have jagged borders, multiple colours, it’s still quite small in diameter and symmetrical. It doesn’t itch, bleed or have a crust.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences after they also noticed their moles changed in pregnancy, or if they had this health anxiety when expecting. I will ask my GP to take a look at it in my routine pregnancy appointment in the coming weeks.

Thank you.

I literally could have written this when I was first pregnant (10 years ago now!). I had bad health anxiety and specifically got really worried about a mole that got darker. I remember a holiday we took when I was 6 months pregnant where I constantly had it at the back of my mind.

I went to see a lovely GP who was very calm and measured it with the view to checking it in 6 months or so. It was all absolutely fine and never grew. The darkening was due to the pregnancy and it's pretty normal. Yours sounds fine to me but I'd mention it at your next check up only for your peace of mind.

Hope you can get the worry out of your mind and enjoy the pregnancy, I remember how it felt Flowers

yes I had a small skin coloured one- it was slightly raised and a bit 'rough' compared to my normal skin. Anyway, when I was pregnant it turned really dark brown. Then it turned back skin colourer again afterwards.
Interesting to see if it happens again this time- though it's nerve wracking as it's one of my biggest fears, I have so many moles!

I had exactly this and the health anxiety in pregnancy.

I went to see my GP about the mole and explained my concerns. I also told them that I was struggling with health anxiety. They referred me to a dermatologist for further assessment and they reassured me that everything was fine. It is likely that yours is due to normal pregnancy/hormonal changes but there's no harm in visiting your GP to have that confirmed. I found I really helped that part of my anxiety.

Good luck with your pregnancy and the anxiety!
