Steroids during pregnancy

Hi I recently found i’m pregnant and i’m about 5 weeks now, however just over two weeks ago I was sent by my gp to the hospital for a very bad case of tonsillitis and was given IV antibiotics and IV steroids (dexamethasone), just one dose of the steroids. I was unknowingly pregnant at the time and roughly around 3 weeks. From doing research it sounds like its dangerous to take during pregnancy..does anyone have any experience with this? Should I tell my gp? TIA xx

Dex is given in pregnancy to preterm women who may be going into labour early, 2 doses 12hours apart.. research shows that it can help to mature the lungs.
I don’t believe there will be a danger for you x

I had Dec in my last pregnancy and will do in this one. It was to help the baby so I doubt you’ve done any damage.

@Littlegoth @MrsLaura89 I was a bit concerned after reading a research done on animals that suggested that it may cause birth defects but thank you so much, i feel a bit at ease now x

People take steroids every day in pregnancy. Asthmatics. Planned c sections/inductions. Premature labour. Prednisolone for autoimmune conditions or fertility support. There is an abundance of actual retrospective evidence of steroids being used by human beings during pregnancy. I wouldn’t be paying that study any attention.
