Hi all, HELP. We got married in covid times, a small affair & are now having our main wedding party in 8 weeks. I have just found out I’m pregnant with my second child. I have my 2nd wedding dress fitting next weekend and my dress is tight! Im so so nervous I won’t fit into it for the main day, am I best to just tell the seamstress asap, although I feel so so bad she will of already done her alterations as I didn’t need much changing!
Also - have my “hen do” in 3 weeks, and my friends know I like a drink so how do I hide not drinking! I’m over the moon to be pregnant but also timing isn’t fantastic!

How far along are you? If it's very early days then you may not change size too much in the next 8 weeks... but yes I would tell seamstress asap so that she's aware you may need more alterations nearer the time.

The hen party is a tricky one! The only excuse I can think of is the age old antibiotics one but people are likely to twig.

Congratulations!

Depends how far along you are as to wether youl grow loads or not, but I can’t understand why you wouldn’t tell your seamstress to be honest!
I would imagine your guests would guess to be honest as you like a drink, have specifically thrown a big party, and now aren’t drinking… doesn’t take a genius. But just remind yourself it’s no bad thing, these are your friends and loved ones and it’s not a bad secret. Good luck and congratulations OP.

@Ehc1989 definitely tell her, I was so small on my first pregnancy didn't show until around 15 weeks and now I'm on my second I'm not even 6 weeks and it looks obvious in my tight clothes. I never thought I would look pregnant so quickly especially as I'm only small. I think things show quicker in your second. Congratulations.

Maybe tell one close friend who can get you drinks that look alcoholic but aren't like virgin cocktails x

Congratulations!! Tell the seamstress and tell your friends. You can drink on most antibiotics you might as well stick a
Big neon sign on your head saying preggers of you go do down that route.

Allschoolsareartschools · 02/04/2023 09:14

I definitely showed quicker with my 2nd! Congratulations.
I'd ask her to make the dress slightly looser but no advice for getting round the drinking issue as its usually a massive giveaway if you're 'on antibiotics' but you can try!!

I was in a similar position on my wedding day last year. I confided in my mother and maid of honour so they were able to ensure I only had non alcoholic prosecco on my hen. Nobody suspected a thing.

On the wedding day, I drunk soda water and lime or lemonade in a wine glass so guests thought I was on gin and lemonade. Again hardly anyone noticed.

Top tip, always carry around a full glass as people and tell your wedding coordinator- they will inform the bar staff to ensure non alcoholic drinks only 😊 congratulations to you!

I was pregnant when I got married. I had a small hen do at my house. It was hilarious watching everyone get drunk. I had an early night and they all stayed over and cleared up the next day.
Perfect!

Thanks all! I’ve always had bleeding in pregnancy, so I feel I need to do a clearblue just to be sure how far gone I am, either 4 weeks or 8. I have already messaged my seamstress and she has told me not to worry the dress we will make it work. If I’m 4 weeks it would make me exactly 12 weeks on the wedding party, may be a nice time to announce it to people.
Really appreciate all your messages, we had a very stressful first pregnancy where my daughter has a heart condition so ultimately feel blessed to be pregnant again & pray this one is smoother x

I’m 19 weeks with my second and only just started to show in the last 4-5 days but others have huge bumps. Everyone is different so definitely tell your seamstress just in case especially if the dress is already tight as you may bloat a lot even if not baby and you don’t want to be uncomfortable all day

In terms of the hen. I think they will guess if you’re a drinker at events and it’s your hen and you’re not drinking. Antibiotics excuse won’t work everyone will guess even if they keep it to themselves. I would tell a couple of close friends and maybe they could get your drinks and make them alcohol free versions and pretend that they are alcoholic and others may not realise as you’re not getting them yourself. By the time they’ve had plenty themselves they won’t notice what others aren’t doing anyway

Thanks for this, I hope I’m one that shows a tad later, I don’t think I started showing till about 17/18 weeks with my first pregnancy.
my seamstress has said not to worry, we will discuss it at my next fitting next week.
Good shout on the hen do, I guess I feel guilty they’ve planned it all for me and I won’t be drinking, eek. Thank you for your advice x
