Labetalol or Nifedipine?

Hi, i suffered from pre eclampsia late on with my first pregnancy and 4 years on, my blood pressure is more high to normal.
I'd love to try for a second baby.
My GP has given me an option between Labetalol or Nifedipine to take for my blood pressure, as anyone taken any of these during pregnancy?

I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia at 41 weeks +3 days and was put on labetalol before and following the birth for a number of weeks. Currently pregnant with number 2.

I've been on labetalol since ttc with my dd 7 years ago. Stayed on it for breastfeeding, still on it many years later as suffering from infertility and losses (nothing to do with the labetalol). Has been fine for me. Not tried the other one to comment. I only had a slightly high bp pre ttc for dc1 and did have pre-eclampsia. All controlled through labetalol.

Have been on both. Labetalol is the more commonly prescribed one however it did absolutely nothing for my BP and I was on the highest dose. Nifedipine I took all through my pregnancy and still take now and it seems to do the trick.

Different things work for different people.

I developed pre-eclampsia at 28 weeks, I was on labetalol and nifedipine for 2 weeks then just labetalol postnatally for 6 months-ish.

I couldn't tell you if one was better than the other and I didn't have any side effects that I noticed.

I've been told by my consultant that labetolol is the gold standard for pregnancy but obviously if that doesn't work for you personally there are others to try.

I had to stop taking an ACE inhibitor when I got pregnant and was switched to labetolol as soon as possible. Stayed on it until I stopped breastfeeding and was able to switch back to ACE inhibitor. No problems.

Does nefidepine have any effects on baby during breastfeeding? @aslkde

@Mimi2022 I previously commented on this thread when pregnant and on labetalol. I'm now nearly 4 weeks post partum and a few days after birth my blood pressure went a bit mad so I'm now on extra labetalol plus nifedipine and am breastfeeding, which the prescribing doctor knew about.
