Dye stealers have stopped & tests are lighter 6/7 weeks

Hi everyone,

Looking for some reassurance because I am a total mess right now. I found out I was pregnant last Thursday and am either 6 or 7 weeks (I have irregular periods so not entirely sure). My lines have been progressing and getting darker since Sunday on the cheap pink sticks you get from Amazon, they have been strong enough to show the first line is a lot darker than the 2nd line which I was really happy with.

I took one last night (I know I need to stop doing them) and noticed it wasn’t necessarily very light, but it was no longer a dye stealer. I then did another one a hour and a half later and noticed a clear difference - I went into absolute panic and suddenly felt like I couldn’t feel my sore boobs anymore. That came back within a hour or two and now can feel them and the test I did before bed did have darker line than the other but just not as much as normal. I then test this morning with my first wee and it’s definitely not darker and I’m scared it’s going lighter and this could mean a miscarriage. I had also been having twinges most days but haven’t had any since Wednesday. I have seen about the hook affect but I tried the diluting and it didn’t really make a difference.

I’m terrified right now I may have an impending miscarriage 💔 has anyone had this exp before and been fine? I still have the sore boobs but nothing else (I haven’t really had much since the beginning anyway)

1st pic is from Wednesday
2nd is when I tested about 6pm last night
3rd is last night before bed about 11pm
4th is this morning
5th is another pic of this morning where it looks a lot lighter

Ok this is going to sound strange but it’s true. If you pee in a cup, pour half of it out and replace with tap water. Then dip the test in and you should have your dye stealer again.

what happens is the hcg gets too high for the test to read and the line comes out faint which freaks the girl out but all is well and it means the hcg is so high! I assume you’re feeling very pregnant at 7 weeks ?

Pollywoddles · 01/04/2023 08:41

You are way too far along to be taking pregnancy tests at this stage. They are not designed for this. At 6/7 weeks your hCG levels will be in the 1000s or 10000s, these tests are designed to measure from 10 or 25. Think about it.

If you’re worried then book a scan, you’re far enough along to see a heartbeat.

@Pollywoddles yes I did sore boobs are good that’s feeling pregnant not everyone gets the sever sickness

Soontobemumof2x · 01/04/2023 08:49

Hi OP,

firstly, congratulations.

This time is the most anxious time in pregnancy. And completely normal for symptoms to come and go. I never got my dye stealer and decided to stop testing at around 6 weeks. I took one last clear blue digital and when it told me 6+ I decided that was enough for me.

if possible, can you book a private scan? I’d recommend doing this for 7-8 weeks! Might put your mind at ease xx

Soontobemumof2x · 01/04/2023 08:51

3+**

fairgame84 · 01/04/2023 08:57

I already knew it would be you OP before I opened the thread. I mean this with kindness but stop bloody testing!

You will always get slightly differing shades of colour on tests because every urine sample is different concentration and test strips are not infallible.
Keeping testing is not helping you. It will make no difference to the outcome of your pregnancy and is ruinung these early weeks by fuelling your anxiety.

I replied to one of your other threads about symptoms. They come and go, it's normal. You can't predict the outcome of a pregnancy on symptoms. With my first I didn't test until 8 weeks and had no symptoms until 10 weeks. With my 2nd I had symptoms from 4 weeks and HG from 6 weeks. Both pregnancies were healthy.

This is totally out if your control. You cannot change anything that will happen with your pregnancy at this stage. Testing and symptom spotting will not change anything. You've still got another 34 weeks to go and you can't carry on like this. Would you consider speaking to your gp to get help with your anxiety?
Please try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Hatscats · 01/04/2023 09:09

Stop testing - you’re pregnant. Testing isn’t going to change the outcome, book in with the midwife - get the ball rolling with scans etc. 12 weeks roll round really quickly for the first scan!

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 09:41

@Pollywoddles I know I should stop testing as i’m not helping myself. It just took me by surprise as I had been seeing super strong ones & suddenly it changed - I took one on my 2nd wee cause that seems to always be a bit stronger and whilst it’s definitely darker it seems a bit more watery/not as strong as before and that has made me anxious. I have been holding off scan until I was maybe 8 weeks, as I have a week or so difference I’m not sure of and have seen a few people say they went to a 6/7 week scan and couldn’t see a heartbeat but didn’t at 8/9 weeks

@Soontobemumof2x Thank you for the congratulations, I really appreciate it 😘

Thats interesting cause my clear blue only goes up to 3+ weeks. Is there one which takes you up to 6 or you mean 3+ actually means 5-6 to a doctor? I took one of those yesterday and was at 3+ and my clear blues are usually really strong but haven’t taken one for a couple of days. I think I’m overthinking as I hadn’t had symptoms other than sore boobs and felt tired but my tiredness has improved & the odd twinge I was getting has gone. I was planning to do a scan at 8 weeks xx

@EllieJade95 Your levels are so high now that even if anything, and I’m not saying it has, has gone wrong the tests won’t tell you because your hCG is so massively high, it will take weeks to drop.

I recommended the scan because you said you were a total mess. If you can hang on to 8 weeks then great but you need to stop testing, it will not tell you anything at this stage.

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 09:47

@fairgame84 It’s always me! 🙈 I think I was thrown off a bit as my tests have been strong since the beginning and yesterday evening was the first time that changed & fear set in me because even when I diluted the wee it didn’t change anything really. I know it’s silly to test as I’ve also seen people say they have had super strong tests and still had a MC. I think part of me uses the tests as a way to “feel” pregnant as I haven’t felt pregnant/had any symptoms other than the boobs really. I know they can come and go which is reassuring I think it just freaked me out a bit I had twinges/niggles for my body adapting to the pregnancy and now they’ve just completely stopped and I have no feeling which coincides with when my tests stopped being as dark.

I’ve seen lots of people say they didn’t have symptoms which is really reassuring but I think it freaks me out when I’ve had something and then it goes. I was thinking of speaking to my GP but I haven’t had my first scan yet, I think realistically that’s the only thing that will help because either way I will know 😔

Sorry didn’t mean to stress you out! I sent an another comment after saying I meant to say 3+!!!!!

If you have your 3+, I’d definitely say you’re ok to stop testing! ❤️

Soontobemumof2x · 01/04/2023 10:22

Also - just wait until you’re 7-8 weeks onwards. You’ll feel as though you’ve been hit by a bus 🤣 unless you’re the lucky one who sails through the pregnancy with ease!

gamerchick · 01/04/2023 10:23

Stop testing. You're clearly pregnant.

No more, chuck them in the bin OP if you have to.

38andtrying · 01/04/2023 10:32

@EllieJade95 if its any help I had same thing at 6 weeks, spent a day of absolute panic before I booked scan, I felt my symptoms had gone and by tests where lighter, scan showed all was OK. I told sonographer what happened and she said look at this screen, you're pregnant, stop testing and that's what I've did since. I'd advise you book a scan for reassurance and if all ok don't test anymore

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 10:44

@38andtrying Thank you for this. That’s what I found really odd, the rest was lighter and all of a sudden couldn’t feel the sore boobs but then today they are painful again. I know the only way I will know is a scan but I’m trying to hold off until 8 weeks because I know myself enough to know if I go now and there’s no heartbeat I will be panicking.
It’s just so hard with the lack of symptoms! I had a couple of days with the odd twinge and felt a lot better because I knew my body was changing for the pregnancy but now they’ve completely stopped!

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 10:45

@Soontobemumof2x Aw don’t worry you didn’t scare me! I just thought I was missing out of another test and my endless research had failed 😂 haha I definitely don’t want the sickness as I know how awful it is but would just be great to have the odd twinge etc :(

Pinkplasticbathcup · 01/04/2023 10:48

I mean this kindly, sweetheart, but stop testing. If you are going to miscarry you will miscarry and there’s nothing that can be done, whether you test or not. Getting yourself in a state over it will not help and might make things worse. Stop testing, breathe, enjoy your pregnancy xx

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 01/04/2023 10:52

OP you need help from your GP for this. It is not normal the amount it is stressing you out.

Taking tests don't mean anything. Like a PP said your HCG will stay high for a few weeks even after a miscarriage.

It is going to be a long pregnancy if you are like this at 6 weeks and that won't do you or the baby any good.

Please go to the GP and get help for your anxiety and quite frankly obsession at the moment.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 01/04/2023 10:53

PS. My first I had no symptoms at all. Nothing. My second was hell on earth with sickness to 38 weeks, aches and pains everywhere and I know which pregnancy I would prefer!

Oh and when the time comes DO NOT get a doppler they do more harm than good.

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 11:38

@Pinkplasticbathcup Thank you for your kind words! I feel like I’m not allowing myself to enjoy it until I know things are ok - I didn’t expect it to be like this full of worry etc xx

OP posts:
EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 11:40

@OhhhhhhhhBiscuits Yeah I think I will speak to my GP about it. I’m just hesitant to get a scan too early cause that could cause me more worry.

And in regards to symptoms I definitely don’t want to feel terrible/have sickness but I think it just makes the anxiety worse not having anything. I’ve seen lots say they haven’t and my mum told me she didn’t have symptoms in either pregnancy other than she was tired - didn’t get morning sickness with me until she was 13 weeks! I think it’s more that I had a couple of days of twinges and then I’ve had nothing since it just worries me a bit because I saw they’re a positive sign as your body is adapting.

Don’t worry, will definitely not get a Doppler! I wouldn’t be able to trust my own judgement of a heartbeat anyway!

I mean this with absolute kindness, but even with an promising early scan there are no guarantees everything will be ok so please do seek help for the anxiety now, else you’re going to find yourself pinging from one worry to the next and causing yourself a whole heap of stress in the process (speaking from bitter experience here!)

EllieJade95 · 01/04/2023 14:59

@PointyMcguire Yeah, I totally know I won’t ever have relief until a lot further down the line - I’m aware I need to speak to someone. It’s been difficult because I referred myself to the local midwife unit on Wednesday but haven’t heard anything back, because of that I haven’t been able to speak to anyone about it who I’m sure would probably tell me I’m being silly.

For me it’s more atm I already feel negative, if my early scan goes well I will still worry but at least I have something to tell myself that was positive. Atm I don’t have anything as I don’t have any symptoms other than saw boobs and the niggles I have had have gone and tests lighter so I don’t have anything to keep telling myself x
