Hi,
I'm 30 weeks and have GD, although my blood sugar numbers aren't too bad. I've just been put on metformin which I'm taking. I'm feeling anxious about it having an ill effect on the baby. Can anyone offer advice or reassurance?

@Myneighbourskia hey, I got diagnosed with GD at 24 weeks pregnant and had metformin, at first it made me have the runs which wasn't that nice! So they switch me to slow release metformin which agreed with me. In regards to my baby he was perfectly fine, no affects. He was born at 40 weeks and passed all his blood sugar test!
Loads of women take metformin for GD and the babies are fine, try not to worry hun x
The best advice I can give you for GD is to focus on your diet and keep them sugar levels low!! Xxx

Can't remember how long I was on metformin for, but absolutely no issue for baby or me. My hospital policy wouldn't let me get to 40 weeks on it, but they're all different. I figured it was better for the baby to take medication than for him to be getting all the extra sugar etc.

I was on metformin with my first pregnancy. I think I started taking it from about 35 weeks. They wanted to induce me at 38 weeks but all was fine and so was baby! No effects at all.
