To dye or not to dye? (semi-permanent at salon)

Hi,

I know there’s a few threads on this topic already but just wanted to canvas opinion on whether it’s reasonable to dye hair during pregnancy.

Im currently 22+4 and until now have shunned hair dye as I’m a bit cautious in case it harms the baby. I’d be after a semi-permanent full head colour treatment to give me a boost and cover greys (only 34 but have more greys since becoming pregnant - is that a thing?).

anyway my salon is quite right on and goes for organic/ natural products. But who really knows of those dyes can be truly ‘natural’? It’s not Aveda they use, but something similar.

Seems like the majority of pregnant ladies do do colour, but is it better to wait until after the birth? Or leave it until the third trimester?

I really don’t want to hurt him! And I’ve been good about avoiding all other stuff like medicines, I don’t drink or smoke, even prior to pregnancy.

Thoughts?

TY!

This sounds like me when I was pregnant. Just dye your hair - you and baby will be fine. You will laugh at yourself in 5 years.

If you're unsure I wouldn't.

@Bananasinpjamas4567 I keep going back and forth haha…

@Fluffodils you’re probably right. I’ll just keep cutting out the greys!

Even permanent colour is absolutely fine, any tiny amount of anything that might get absorbed by your skin will never be strong enough to make it to baby or have any effect. Please try not to worry about everything and if you find your anxiety remains high it’s a good idea to speak to your midwife so they can put support in place.

It is perfectly safe to colour your hair in pregnancy. Nhs says some women wait until after the 1st trimester but doesn't actually say its unsafe to use it at any point in pregnancy

Thanks everyone- I guess I’m a bit of a nervous Nelly!
