3 maternity leave. When do I tell work?

After I had my first baby, I went on my second mat leave 11 months after. I am now returning to work 8 week’s pregnant with baby 3. When should I tell work? I know it’s up to me, but I feel like I’ll be judged or thought of I won’t be there for long. I have a midwife appointment soon after I start work in work hours so I have to decide soon or a reason for my leave in the work day.

Just go and tell them. They legally have to show support even if they are cursing your name in their mind. Done worry too much and congratulations 🎉

I would tell them in writing as soon as possible so that you get the legal protection.

Tell them as soon as you can, that way they may want to arrange your current maternity cover coming back in a few months.

Tell them ASAP.

I told mine in a return to work meeting. It was fine, just a bit surprised but still professional

I work in HR. Tell them now 1. So legal protection can kick in and 2. So that a risk assessment can be done for your own safety at work.
We don’t care that your pregnancies are back to back, or if you start a new job and you are pregnant, or if (like me) you have fertility issues or a complicated pregnancy and need lots of time off, we just need to know so we can make sure you get everything you are entitled to, and that we aren’t putting you at risk in the day to day course of your job x

Tell them. Get it over with. You’ll probably get some comments because they’ve been close together, but legally you’re protected.

It’s shit having to tell them, for some reason it comes with this insane sense of guilt over letting them down somehow, which is total bollocks. And I’ve only done it once.
