small BPD measurement at 32 weeks

Hi all. I had a regular follow up appointment with the obstetrician last week (not in UK) and measured overall a little small so he referred me to have a growth scan this week at 32 weeks.

All measurements came back normal or large (45-85 percentile) this week apart from biparietal diameter very low (3rd percentile) and head circ smallish (10th percentile)

I am now very worried the baby has a skull deformity or worse. The FM doctor has requested I come in for follow up in 4 weeks for another scan. I did not speak to FM doctor this was requested electronically once the sonographer sent off the chart.

Has anyone had a baby with a low BPD? The head did look a little narrow on the screen kind of oval rather than round.

Just wanted to follow up on this incase anyone else had the same issue. I had repeat growth scans and all bar the last one showed a very narrow and small head, even my obstetrician measured it as less than 3rd percentile. At the last appointment the sonographer seemed a bit more experienced and measured the head as 10th percentile but told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with my baby and to calm down! My baby was born with a completely average head size, 40th percentile. The head does look a little narrow from some angles but absolutely within normal limits. Good luck to any mums to be who find this post x

Hi @cillacilla thank you so much for posting your update! It was the hopeful glimmer I needed today.

Yesterday I had a 31 week scan with similar-ish results (except it sounds like the dolichocephalic head shape is even more pronounced for my baby, <1 centile for BPD (omg) but 60th centile for OFD, and 17th centile overall for HC, and every other reading completely normal).

The sonographer told me not to worry (impossible) and I'm waiting to find out if I'm going to get referred to the FMU.

Once I saw (and googled) the measurements, especially the BPD, I booked a private scan with a FM consultant next week anyway for peace of mind.

At the moment I'm seeing dolichocephaly or even scaphocephaly / sagittal suture as manageable/good outcomes since skull shape needn't mean anything fundamentally wrong with baby's brain, that can't be treated after birth. I'm so worried that it could be something else.
