20 weeks and still really exhausted, is this normal?

I'm 20 weeks today and still feeling so tired. I feel awful first thing in the morning too 😭 all my iron levels etc are fine, in fact midwife said they were really good. Im just so exhausted.

I don't remember this in my first pregnancy. I'm so inactive at the moment and it's really getting to me. I used to run 3 miles 3 or 4 times a week and now I physically can't. Even a 2 mile walk tires me out.

Should I speak to my midwife, or is this considered normal?

Idk if its normal but I’m 19 weeks and right there with you!

I would say normal if you also have a little one to run around after!

Yes it can be totally normal. Just like morning sickness for some can last the entire pregnancy. You are growing an entirely new person, your body is working exceptionally hard. I’m on my theirs now and still hoping for the elusive pregnancy glow and second trimester boost of energy people talk about, I’ve definitely never had it with any of mine.

Im afraid I don’t have advice but I do have solidarity. I am 17w and can barely function, it’s horrid OP! I’m not worried about it really, baby is fine on scans and you are growing a person which does sound tiring!

I am also with you regarding the inactivity, I was extremely athletic before pregnancy and nowadays I hardly leave the house. I’ve started giving myself errands and walking them (eg the shops) just to give me some activity since I would have found the errands exhausting anyway. I’m not ready for running/swimming/cycling again and that’s ok.

Normal to me! I'm 36 weeks and have been exhausted this entire pregnancy, much much more than I was with my first.

Dyra · 28/03/2023 10:54

I'm getting the feeling this is extremely common in second+ pregnancies. I too was utterly exhausted from pretty much conception until birth. Bloods were perfect. Bit of a shock when I had no fatigue with my first. Sorry.

Thanks everyone, this is actually weirdly encouraging although I'm so sorry you're all suffering! It really is tough for second + pregnancies. I feel like I did get a bit of the second trimester glow with my first once the initial 18 weeks of sickness eased, but this time....Nothing! Still feeling very sick, still exhausted, feel like I'm gaining tonnes of weight and generally just fed up.

A small price to pay for a happy healthy human, but still, I keep telling myself it's not forever! 🤦‍♀️

Not sure if it's normal but I'm 25 weeks and right there with you! I have to nap with my toddler every day, I'm totally exhausted
