So I got the implant fitted, up until I got it fitted I was using condoms. 4/5 days after having the implant fitted I had unprotected sex but he pulled out. About 6 days later I had bad cramps on my left side for an hour, I thought this might be a period coming but nothing did. I have missed my period and I know that's common with the implant anyway but the doctor that fitted it told me to take a pregnancy test If I missed that period when I got it fitted so I’m a little confused, I've also had breakouts, been super emotional and had very sore boobs but l've put that down to the implant. Is it possible I could be pregnant? I’m going to test within the next 12 hours.

Hiya,

I had the implant for years and when I was given it the advice was to not have unprotected sex until it had been in for at least a week as it can take a while for it to release the hormones and for your body to adjust.

I would say it's definitely possible and the best thing to do is take a pregnancy tests, FRER are probably the best for early sensitivity.

Your nexplanon doesn't protect you until at least 7 days after insertion unless you're at a very specific point in your cycle. So yes, you had unprotected sex while your birth control was not yet effective so you could be pregnant.

Like others I was told 7 days before I was "protected ". So probably best do a test.

However I did have cramps (never really had them before) about 3 weeks after it was put it, around the time I was due a period. However it was a further 3ish weeks before I had a very heavy period that lasted 9 days. Since then it's all calmed down and been fine in the 7 months I've had it in now.
