I think I was told wrong sex for baby - am I crazy?

Went for a private gender scan, 17ish weeks. She sounded really sure and said girl but the more I look the more I see boy!

Am I being completely insane and irrational?

I know there are more important things just can’t stop thinking about it.

Based on my sons potty shot it looks more likely to be a girl to me. The raptor would have a clear “tongue” in my experience. Honestly it looked like the letter W. My scan was 20w on the nose.

CascaChan · 26/03/2023 18:11

Looks like a girl to me! Congratulations on your wiggly baby OP

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 26/03/2023 18:11

Hmm, it could be a swollen girl? Both my girls were very clear hamburgers, yours doesn't seem to be like mine

catchthedog · 26/03/2023 18:14

I'm having a boy and the bit you're looking at is about 3 x the size as on your scan, halfway down the leg 😆 so yours looks like a girl to me.

Autumn231 · 26/03/2023 18:14

Looks like a girl to me! But I’m not a sonographer

margegunderson · 26/03/2023 18:22

It's an unborn baby. You'll know when it's born. Plenty soon enough.

The reptile jokes were funny the first 2-3 times but some actual opinions would be quite nice too…

Ok, ok, don't get snappy!!

darjeelingrose · 26/03/2023 18:27

I'm not a sonographer, but I would say girl from that photo. There's nothing else there, I don't see what you are seeing.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 26/03/2023 18:27

Wait until the 20 week scan. They will tell you if they can see properly but it's never 100%.

Fundays12 · 26/03/2023 18:32

It does look like a girl but isn't that clear. Scans always have a chance of being wrong though. I have had 3 scans with all 3 of my kids and all were correct but I know people that have been told wrongly (1 lady was told 3 times she was have a boy and had a girl and 1 lady told she was having a girl and had a boy) so personally I made sure I had lots of neutral clothes.

Well you could just wait until its born. Something people did successfully for many years.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 26/03/2023 18:36

You're having a crocodile

WestendVBroadway · 26/03/2023 18:37

What the hell are people seeing that could possibly indicate one sex over the other?
I am not seeing any identifying features either way.

The angle is if you were looking down at a baby’s bottom.

Withnailandeye · 26/03/2023 18:43

What is it that is making you doubt the sonographer’s professional opinion?

Jadviga · 26/03/2023 18:44

I think the round shape is too far to the left to be a scrotum, so on that basis I'd say it's a girl.

You could wait a week or two to have another scan, or if it's very important for you to know there are blood tests I think that can tell you the gender with 99% accuracy.

As for people saying to wait until the birth, how unhelpful can you be 🙄 there are plenty of reasons to want to know earlier, from plain curiosity to it helping bond with the baby, project on names, plan the nursery... Not everyone wants to do these things when the baby is born and they have zero time and energy left.

viques · 26/03/2023 18:44

I would say girl.

Or possibly boy, no it’s a girl, probably, though I could be wrong. One or the other anyway. Hope that helps.

HalliwellManor · 26/03/2023 18:46

If it is a boy you could always call him Ty or Rex?

Silverbook · 26/03/2023 18:48

It’s amusing that you value the opinion of strangers over a professional who you literally paid to tell you because it’s their job and they do it every day.

Even more amusing that the strangers most agree it’s a dinosaur. Possibly illustrating you should leave it to the professionals 😉

Or Barney. He's a big, purple Dinosaur 😂

Scans aren't 100% accurate though. What would happen then?

People have only responded that way because of the OP's reaction to some light hearted replies.

That's what I thought too.

The reaction really wasn’t that bad. She asked perfectly politely if people could engage with the question. I wouldn’t have bothered myself but I have to admit I do find it a bit tedious when everybody rushes to tell the same joke.
