Hi everyone. Third time mum here aged 38. 18wks pregnant and I got my estimated chance of a baby with Down's syndrome as 1:552 today. Had the test at 12wks with an NT measurement of 1.7. I know I'm older but I feel this is quite high risk even though I know it's considered "low." Has anyone had a similar experience? I will love it whatever but would rather just be prepared. I can't really afford to have a NIPT. Thank you for reading Flowers

@chocciebiscuits for your age it's low risk, I'm 42 and only received letter stating I'm in lower risk, without numbers. When I spoke with midwife she said for my age lower risk is above 1:150 and above, they don't give numbers for low risk as people get panicky for no reason. Also your NT measurement is good, during scan I'm sure they had look at nose and bladder, if all that looks fine then I wouldn't worry.

I'm similar age. Mine was 1:150. Had the NIPT and came back low chance.

My age alone gave a 1:199 chance I think, so your risk is quite good. It's a 0.18% chance of having a baby with DS.

For anyone’s age those are really good odds and I wouldn’t waste your money on another test. The NT is half the level considered to be at risk of Down’s syndrome.
I’m 37 and had much worse probability (1 in 35) and our NIPT came back as low risk.

I’m sorry your midwife didn’t explain these results in a way that gave you confidence.

Thank you @Moni81, I also just received a low risk result and was happy with that. Only today they gave me the actual number, and I think when you see other women saying they have a 1:20,000 change etc mine just felt high. Thank you for your kind words. All the best with your pregnancy 💕

@ratherbthedevil thank you when you put it that way it does sound a very low percentage. Have a lovely evening 💕

@BackoftheMumsnet Thank you so much for your kind words and for explaining that to me. I'm so glad your NIPT came back ok. The midwife just said your low risk and totally moved on to something else. It was only when I got home and looked at the notes I panicked as I felt that was quite a high risk. All the best with the rest of your pregnancy ❤️

@BackoftheMums5et Thank you for explaining that to me. The midwife just said your low risk and completely moved on, it was only when I got home I looked at the notes and panicked because it felt a high risk. Based on my age it was 1:163 so I guess it's good it's higher than that. I'm so pleased your NIPT came back fine, just goes to show a high reading doenst always mean bad news. All the best with the rest of your pregnancy ❤️
