Can't eat anything except cereal

I'm 10 weeks and I've been struggling with severe nausea after eating for a few weeks but is now so bad that the only thing I can eat without feeling horrendous is cereal like rice crispies and bananas. I'd been on a fairly beige diet the last 3-4 weeks as anything I'd usually eat/healthy/homemade/flavoursome I was struggling with but now I can't eat most of the stuff I was getting by on either. Is this normal? Will it likely pass? I get hungry every couple of hours and had been trying to eat something regularly but starting to feel hesitant to eat because if I don't then I don't feel so ill. I really miss being able to eat proper food and I'm so tired of feeling ill and just eating the same things. Is there anything that will help or do I just wait it out and hope it gets better?

It’s fairly common but the good news is it tends to lift fit most people around 12 weeks. Embrace the rise krispies and just try to stay hydrated xx

mackthepony · 25/03/2023 12:36

Yeah that's normal. By 14 weeks you should be able to eat veggies etc

Morningcoffeeview · 25/03/2023 12:36

With my first the only thing I could keep down was salted crisps until about 16 weeks.

cushioncovers · 25/03/2023 12:37

Have you been to the doctors op and got anything for the sickness? But agree with others it tends to lift for most people at around 14 weeks.

I went through a stage when the only thing I could tolerate was cornflakes and McDonald's chips.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 25/03/2023 12:39

I was the same, could only eat plain chicken and boiled rice at 5pm, any other time I was sick every 20 mins.

It stopped at 12 weeks almost on the button. I ended up losing weight

SaltyGod · 25/03/2023 12:39

It will pass.

I ate nothing but cereal and cheese sandwiches for the first 3 to 4 months. Slowly my appetite returned but with a leaning to simpler foods all pregnancy

AdoraBell · 25/03/2023 12:43

This will pass. For now just eat whatever you can and stay hydrated but water is a trigger for nausea. So if it’s makes you feel nauseous then switch to any other liquid, flat coke or similar- not diet versions, open it and leave it go flat.

swedex · 25/03/2023 12:50

It does pass! I would find something ok and then within a few days would be throwing up good to try other beige foods milk bread ham sandwiches worked for a bit and mashed potato and gravy!
Also flat cheap lemonade
You'll be fine! Xx

I ate mainly crunchy nut cornflakes and nectarines in one of my pregnancies.

Macaroni46 · 25/03/2023 12:59

I lived off porridge for 16 weeks and didn't stop being sick until 20 weeks with my first. It's an awful feeling but does eventually pass. Horrible while you're going through it though! I have no advice really other than just eat what you can and rest.

eellww · 25/03/2023 13:15

Thank you everyone. Comforting to know many have been through the same thing!

Hope you feel better soon. With no.2 I had no sickness whatsoever!

iGotADilemma · 25/03/2023 15:50

I'm nearly 9 weeks and I'm living off cereal most days. I can stomach cheerios and coco pops. It's completely normal and will pass in a few weeks. As long as you're eating something, it doesn't matter what it is! Keep hydrated with squash if you can't stomach water. I've been sipping fizzy lucozade and it helps take the edge off. You're nearly through to the other side. Hang on for another couple of weeks

Soontobemumof2x · 25/03/2023 15:57

I was the same OP. The only thing that saved me was cyclizine that the GP prescribed me. Still take one if I feel iffy! I’d speak to your doctor!

BritishDesiGirl · 26/03/2023 08:02

Hi, OP

I'm in the same position as you. Feel as if l can barely eat anything. Glad to see so many posts saying that it will pass.
