Fit to fly certificate pregnancy - anyone used any online companies?

Hello,
Has anyone used any online companies for a fit to fly certificate? My GP surgery no longer supply them and the midwives have said they don’t have authority to sign the form for Ryan Air.

I’ll be turning 27 weeks on the Sunday I fly back so I could be ok without which I might not have a choice but no idea where to go and if the ones online are even ok for Ryan Air etc.

thank you!

you could bring your MAT B1 form with you as proof that you are under 28 weeks when flying

Just come across this thread as I am also having issues with both midwife and GP refusing to provide- did you have any luck?

sommeliermama · 05/07/2023 11:12

@Esl17 most midwives and doctors won't sign the forms as they are not official medical documents. Which airline are you flying with? I had to fly home for a funeral this week at 33 weeks and wasn't even looked at by the airline staff - that was with easyJet and Ryanair.

I have my hospital app on my phone which has my medical records which could be used as proof of pregnancy but honestly there were no issues!

@sommeliermama British Airways - they just want a dated letter confirming due date/single and uncomplicated pregnancy but both midwife and GP are being difficult. Flying out at 30 weeks and back at 31 (only short haul to Greece) Would just hate to turn up and be denied boarding, obviously will take my maternity notes anyway but it’s v stressful! Have considered baggy clothing but might get a difficult member of airport staff?

Howd this go for everyone? Having the same problem here!

Esl17 · 09/07/2023 16:37

@Soundbathfan still haven’t flown - flying in two weeks but I used an online company called Home 2 Lab, you send over a picture of your passport and hospital/midwife notes and got a fit to fly certificate back in 2 hours for £38. It’s signed by a British Medical Council registered GP hoping all is fine and they have to accept! BA haven’t even asked for a full certificate they seem quite lax compared to other airlines but I just feel better for having one and will take with me!

Hi, I flew with Ryan Air and they didn’t ask to see anything but in the end the midwife agreed to write a letter stating my due date was XX and I was classed as a low risk pregnancy. She couldn’t say ‘fit to fly’ but just stated about the pregnancy.

Good to hear OP. Annoyingly my bmi was 37 at first midwife appt so I'm not sure they'll sign me off after 28 weeks. I'm also 37. If anyone has a higher bmi and experience with online companies please post!

Oops 37 years old. Geriatric apparently ha!

Soundbathfan · 10/07/2023 16:54

Called the GP, they categorically will not do it.
Midwives won't either! Bizarre

Esl17 · 10/07/2023 20:25

@Soundbathfan so frustrating isn’t it! When I sent a copy of my notes to Home 2 Lab they didn’t ask to see BMI just wanted a recent blood pressure reading so I sent a picture of my midwife appt notes and 12 week scan report with due date.

This is what they asked for and got the fit to fly certificate back 2 hours later.

Amazing thank you for sharing! When you say you uploaded your midwife appt notes where do I find this on the app? I've just been looking for 20 min and can't see any notes besides my last BP reading on antenatal care summary and my 12 wk USS results.
Thanks so much this is very reassuring :)

@Soundbathfan sorry I’m not sure my NHS trust still uses an old school book for all my appointments that they hand write in so I just took a picture of these handwritten notes, I don’t have an app. I’m sure Home 2 Lab will contact you if you need more though or you can give them a call to clarify.

Did your flight go alright? Not flying til Sept myself so got a bit of time! I think I'll be able to get it sorted or at least I hope so :) either online docs or midwife said she may be able to help in the end...

Esl17 · 23/07/2023 09:19

@Soundbathfan it’s next Sunday - I will keep you posted!

Esl17 · 31/07/2023 18:09

@Soundbathfan flew yesterday at 30+1, no one said a bloody thing! I paid £38 for an online fit to fly certificate and another £20 for a note confirming due date from the doctor as was feeling nervous about it, wasn’t asked for a single thing at check in or boarding from anyone! At least I have it for the way back just in case I guess. Feel like it’s one of those things where if I didn’t have it I would have been asked!
