Anyone ever had a SUPER early ultrasound?

Can anyone on here tell me what 'two dots' mean on a very early ultrasound?

I went into EPU today due to extreme back pain and feeling shoulder pain last night. Also having period like pains.

They scanned me however, I do not have a 'last period date' due to me having a miscarriage so they scanned me not knowing how far along I am'

The absolute max I could be is 4 weeks but unlikely as that was the day after I stopped bleeding from my MC.

They scanned and couldn't see much, checked fallopian tubes and ovaries and said they look normal but can't be sure at the moment.

The sonographer said that he can see 'two dots' where a pregnancy should be but it's just too early to tell and be sure.

What does two dots mean?? Twins??

If anyone could help that's had a scan at around 3 weeks I would be so grateful!!

If your sonographer wasn’t able to tell you what two dots in your ultrasound were then it’s unlikely anyone here will.

It’s just far too early to be having scans at this stage. My local EPU doesn’t scan before 6 weeks usually as there’s really nothing to see except maybe a blob. I know it’s frustrating, especially after a miscarriage, but you really just need a to wait a few more weeks.

They scanned me due to it possibly being ectopic, otherwise they wouldn't have.

I know no one else would know, I am asking if anyone who's had a scan that early, had two dots and if it was a twin pregnancy

could it be embryo and yolk sac? I haven’t had one that early, it’s only a guess.

Tbf that's a good point. I have absolutely no clue, all I know is my pregnancy symptoms compared to my first born and my previous miscarriage are just a hell of a lot more, extremely early on so didn't know if it was a sign when he said two dots on ultrasound!

@babymummy96 on my previous pregnancy, 7y ago, I had an early scan at 8 weeks. When she first started I swore I saw 2 dots appear side by side on the screen, my partner too.
Sonographer then asked could she perform a trans vaginal scan to get a better look as she couldn’t see anything at all (even tho there was clearly 2 dots on the screen). Turned out those 2 dots were twins!
Im sure your sonographer would have said something if she noticed it tho!
how far along are you? Maybe book in another scan in a few weeks time for a better look.

I had a test that early due to suspected ectopic nothing could be seen until my levels were over a certain number, went back 4 weeks later and seen a sac unfortunately ended in miscarriage

I would also guess embryo and sac but I think 4 weeks would be even too early for that?

I live in a country where we are scanned a loooooooot during pregnancy, and even then my OB says that unless any worrying symptoms (ie that might suggest ectopic), anything before 7/8 weeks is hard to be conclusive.

Best of luck.

I had a scan at 5 weeks, done at a private fertility clinic, and the doctor confirmed she could see the yolk but that the sack had an unusual shape so not to get my hopes up too much. A scan a week later showed I was pregnant with identical twins! I think the unusual shape was the egg splitting. I had lots of cramps and very strong pregnancy tests.
