Big bump, big baby??

I'm 24 weeks pg and seem to have a massive bump. A colleague is 26 wks pg and her bump is much less pronounced than mine, and I was speaking to an expectant mum in a restaurant at the weekend ( who I though looked about the same as me) who turned out to be 36weeks and was astonished when I told her I was only 24. I don't remember how large I was at this stage with dd as it was 7 years ago. I've not put masses of weight on - I'm 1/2 stone heavier than pre-pregnancy ( I lost 1/2 stone at the start due to severe nausea and not eating) and all the weight seems to be on the bump. I'm really worried that I'm going to have a massive baby - anyone know if this is likely to be the case?

I was huge for all of my pregnancies. My bump wasn't any bigger for the twins than the singletons. In fact everyone thought that I was having twins with each pregnancy. DS1 was 8lb 9, DD1 7lb 1, DD2 8lb 1, DT1 4lb 5 and DT2 5lb 14. Size of bump meant nothing! hth Smile

I had a Massive Bump that went all the way out the from the sides...everywhere...think thomas the tanks fat controller. Baby 7.1lbs
2nd Bump.. Teeny Weeny. Looked about 5 months pregnant at 9 months. Baby 7lb exactly.
So id say no it doesnt matter!

Hiya - i was HUGE with both mine - i put on 4 stone in my first pregnancy and according to dp was 'the size of a house' but dd was 7lbs. Second time i put on a stone and was again huge but ds was only 6lbs 7oz :)

I still look about 6 months pregnant!!!! :(

misdee · 07/12/2004 18:09

didnt have a bump with either of my two. (theres a thread about about being fed up with not looking pregnant) and i am just showing now with this baby (am 28 weeks). dd1 was 6lb 15oz, dd2 was 9lb!!

Just kept a friend company in labour. She had a small bump and 3 doctors all agreed she was having a small baby. Until they were actually pulling him out during the C-section, at which point he turned out to be 8 lbs 10 oz. Nobody has any idea where he was hiding!

Are you a petite kind of person BMX? I only ask as I am very tall. My midwife reckoned that I had a small bump (didn;t look og from behind even at 9 months) as the baby had so much room in there. He was able to stretch up, rather than out. This is probably also why he didn't engage AT ALL until after my waters had burst. He ws 8lb10. And gorgeous. He is currently off the top of the chrts for length, bless him Smile

DONT WORRY! i had the hugest bum and i was only like 20 weeks and i just got bigger people assumed i was having twins! but i gave birth to ds he was only 6oz 14lb and tiny! and im pleased to say hes only 3months and i baisicly have my figure back so please dont worry i did and it was fine! my midwife said it was coz i was tiny when i fell preggers 7 1/2 stone, 5'3. plus its a proven fact 99% of babies will only grow to a certain size depending on the mum thats waht i was told by my osteatrician.

bump sorry!!!!!!!!!!! Blush

bonymerryxmas · 07/12/2004 19:45

AllIwantforxmas - I'm far from petite - 5'10" in fact and don't look pg from behind! This is why I'm worried the baby will be big as I've not put on much weight and it's ALL on the bump! Am usually 11.5 stone & size 12-14 - I now weigh 12stone and some of my size 12 pregnancy jeans are still too large despite the massive bump!

Can be lots of fluid can't it? I'm bigger this time and midwife said it was due to, ahem, lack of muscle tone Blush

albosmum · 07/12/2004 19:56

I had a tiny bump and a 9lb 2 baby , furst time round I had a huge bump and a 7lb 1 baby .

eidsvold · 07/12/2004 20:57

dd1 - tiny bump - in fact did not look pregnant.. she was 6lb 1/2 oz

dd2 - huge bump - and it was hard (iykwim) all baby - showed much earlier and looked very pregnant - 9lb 7oz

NomDePlumPudding · 07/12/2004 21:05

DD was housed in a big but neat bump and was 7lb 1oz. By 'Big but neat', I mean that I didn't look preg from behind but the bump was very 'out front' and round.

I've had four and although I never looked huge with any of them, I was definitely biggest with nos 2 and 3, who strangely enough were the smallest babies. With no 1 and no 4 (8lbs 13oz & 8lbs 10.5oz respectively), I barely showed until I was about 6 or 7 months and even at the end I was far from huge. In fact we moved into a new house when I was 5 months pregnant and my next door neighbour told me the first she knew of my pregnancy was when she was me out pushing a pram Shock - she apparently put the large number of (new baby) cards in the window down me being incredibly popular and getting lots of Valentine cards Wink or so she told me!
Also, the doctors were so concerned about my neice's lack of bump, that she was sent for numerous growth scans - her 'tiny bump' turned out to be an 8lb 8oz baby boy.
I think a lot of it depends on the position of the baby and possibly on how strong your tummy muscles are.
